Bravo Readies 'Real Housewives of Miami,' Adds Drag Queen to Cast

by PopEater Staff, posted Jan 26th 2011 3:50PM

Bravo is rolling out its newest 'Real Housewives' series with a twist: a drag queen!

PopEater's Rob Shuter says the wildly successful 'Housewives' franchise is taking on Miami, confirming the rampant rumors. But aside from the possibility of bumping into the odd 'Jersey Shore' straggler, the show is sure to shock some viewers by adding its first-ever self-styled drag queen to the cast.

Blonde bombshell Elaine Lancaster, whose male name is James Davis and who is close friends with Dennis Rodman, has joined the show as a part of the wider ensemble.

"This is a super-brave move on the part of Bravo," a TV executive tells me, adding that putting this kind of character "on mainstream TV with honesty and dignity will help everyone accept that the America we all live in is full of beautiful and talented people that come in many different forms. Bravo to Bravo."

Elaine will appear as both James and Elaine in the series, which is expected to debut in the first half of 2011. The show started its life as 'Miami Social Club' but will now be 'RHOM,' and also stars Scottie Pippen's wife Larsa and magazine editor Alexia Echeverria.

"Bravo shot the show and debated for weeks whether or not to add it to its 'Housewife' franchise or just run it as a stand alone Miami show," a Bravo insider tells me. "But now the decision has been made and it will be another 'Real Housewife' show."

Note to you 'Beverly Hills' ladies, you are going to have to turn it up a notch or two! Wink!

I think by cutting off the idea of stopping more cities of the real housewifes helps the show from watering down the show. By not adding on to this phenominal series we can much more time remembering the individual cast members and to which set of housewives they come. It gives you time to actual know each one on a little mor personel basis. Great job Andy keep up the fantastic job you are doing. Thanks= Big FAN JEFF

HA! Dan, you sure seem to know an awful lot about the housewives. I guess you love intelligent television, too! Don't have a coronary, Dan. Go put your nicest dress and heels on and have a martini!!! RHNY is coming up soon! Enjoy!!

THANK YOU, Bravo! My husband has been pressuring me to cancel our expanded cable (for budget reasons), and the only reason I was putting it off is because I absolutely love the RH shows. But this has helped me tremendously. I will watch the reunion show for RHBH and make a call to our cable company immediately afterwards.

$50/month savings for our budget. THANK YOU, Brovo!!!!

So you watched that horrible and vapid waste of television about a former porn star and her frenemies (your only reason for cable? No quality programming needed for an airhead like you!) but suddenly they add a drag queen and you're so offended that you'll cancel your cable?

How is a drag queen worse than a porn star or some cheap slut wannabe porn star, or the broke women pretending to be rich, or those other horrible people? If you can handle the rest of this pathetic show (people who watch this type of TV should just give up their right to be called intelligent), you really don't deserve to take the high moral ground just because some drag queen joined the cast. Plus, it's not like any of those other women were any more real than the drag queen!
