As eccentric as Mike is, he has always had a love of these little winged ones. I have rescued nearly a dozen in the past few years and have to admit that I was caught up in the negative sterotyping of pigeons, and quite frankly admit I was wrong. They are very intelligent and make good companion pets. Having had a respect for all things in life, those that I understand and those I did not, it took having one brought to me that was hurt on razor wire to realize it was a living thing deserving of care and respect. I still have two who are with me and there is a real connection and affection between us. Many of those that are in this country are descendents of those the Spanish brought here and escaped and became feral. They are actually North African Rock Doves. People, for the most part, will ooh and aah over a dove but mention a Pigeon and they scowl. It is an undeserving and bad rap that they have as they have their place in life and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Just a Native American elder's perspective on this subject and love or not Mike Tyson, I respect his passion for these little ones. It is an admirable trait and I only wish more of our kind were more "humane" towards those things that they don't understand...it would be conquering the one thing that is a huge fault of human kind.
