Reminder: Ricky Gervais Cameos on 'The Office' Tonight! Win the U.K. Series on DVD

by Kelly Woo, posted Jan 27th 2011 3:30PM
Ricky GervaisIt's the moment all 'Office' fans have been waiting for: David Brent and Michael Scott finally cross paths in tonight's new episode (9PM ET, NBC).

Ricky Gervais makes a cameo in the show, which is a remake of the BBC show he created almost 10 years ago.

"It's a little more than if you blink, you'll miss it, but if you don't set your TiVo right, you'll miss it," said 'Office' show-runner Paul Lieberstein.

To celebrate the meeting of these two characters, we're giving away three copies of 'The Office: The Complete BBC Collection (First and Second Series Plus Special).' If you've never seen the British original, catch up on the inane and cringeworthy antics of David Brent, as hilariously played by Ricky Gervais.

Get a taste here with the first episode, then scroll down to see how you can win the complete series DVD!

I have to say, it took me a long time to warm up to the American version, because I'd been such a fan of the BBC show. UK, I loved Tim giving Dawn the art supplies. That whole unrequited thing was really nice. NBC, where to begin? Dwight crashing his Trans Am trying to get to Michael, then throwing up, Meredith belly dancing at the office party, anything Stanley...

When Michael says: Would I rather be feared or loved? Um, easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.

For me, there are too man great moments from the US Office to choose from. So, I'm just going to go with my favorite scene from the British Office:

Series 1, Episode 4 "Training": David, Garreth and Tim singing "Free Love Freeway" together. That one had me in stitches.

From "Casino Night":
Michael Scott (to Toby): "Why are you the way that you are? Honestly, every time I try to do something fun or exciting, you make it...not that way. I hate...so much...about the things that you choose to be."

First saw Ricky in Extras and have yet to see the UK version of the Office. But I really enjoyed a scene early on in the third season of The Office. Jim is working at another branch and sends Dwight his own faxes pretending to be Dwight from the future. The best part is when Dwight hits a coffee mug out of Stanley's hand because "future Dwight" said that it was poisoned.

My favorite scene is in the American Version. It's when Michael Scott calls Jim in the office to meet his "new friend" Harvey.... "Whose Long Tim?" LOL

My favorite scene was the opening of that UK episode when they all spontaneously started singing the Muppets song Mahna Mahna. It had such great energy. A splash of sweetness against the otherwise awkward hilarity of the original series.
