What to Watch: TV Picks for January 31-February 6
MONDAY, JANUARY 31'Chuck' (8PM, NBC)
The whole season, particularly the last two weeks, have been building up to this week's episode. With Casey still recuperating from his fall, Chuck decides to take on Volkoff (Timothy Dalton) himself. Meanwhile, Sarah works to get Chuck's mom (Linda Hamilton) out of Volkoff's organization once and for all. And if that's not enough, it looks like Chuck's niece may be coming sooner than expected.

'Lie to Me' -- The third season ends with Cal investigating the murder of a social network co-founder who feared that her partner was trying to get her out of the organization. (9PM, FOX) season 3 finale
'The Cape' -- It's your typical superhero dilemma: protect your enemy from someone who's even a worse enemy. In this case, Vince needs to protect Peter Flemming/Chase from a woman seeking revenge for her father's death. If he doesn't...well, the show has a very abrupt series ending, doesn't it? (9PM, NBC)

While crime dramas continue to dominate the television schedules, few modern viewers really know the origins of this genre. Tonight's 'Pioneers of Television' takes a look at some of the early criminal dramas that paved the way for 'Law & Order,' 'NCIS' and any other show in today's repertoire. Programs to be featured are 'Dragnet,' 'The Untouchables,' 'I Spy,' and 'The Rockford Files'

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2'Cougar Town' (9:30PM, ABC)
Enjoy this week's episode of 'Cougar Town' because it will be the last until April. No, it's not being canceled (actually, if you read TV Squad a few weeks ago, you would know it's been renewed). Rather, Courtney Cox and her Cul-de-Sac Crew are taking a break to make way for another 'Friends' alum -- Matthew Perry -- and his new comedy 'Mr. Sunshine.' So make sure you absorb all of the craziness as the gang celebrates Valentine's Day in their own middle-aged, eccentric manner.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 3'Community' (8PM, NBC)
This sophomore comedy is starting to beat out 'The Big Bang Theory' for the share of closet geeks and nerds in the viewing audience. Earlier in the season the gang at Greendale Community College became zombified and stop-action animated. This week, the geek is on full throttle as the gang plays Dungeons & Dragons for the entire episode. Who in the study group will turn out to be the secret D&D fan with his or her own custom-made 20-sided die?

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4'Who Do You Think You Are?' (8PM, NBC) season 2 premiere
With so much data at the tips of our fingers in this information age we know more about our favorite celebrities than at any time previously. But, in reality, it just scratches the surface of our knowledge. Which is why 'Who Do You Think You Are' works. By going that extra mile in research, both the viewer and the person tracing their ancestry usually find out something new and interesting about their lives. In tonight's premiere, Vanessa Williams discovers a familial connection to someone in the Union Army of the Civil War.
'The Defenders' -- With 'Blue Bloods' currently in the Wednesday, 10PM slot, 'The Defenders' has now taken up residence on Fridays. Tonight, a murder suspect returns 17 years after disappearing to ask Nick to help clear his name using technology that wasn't around two decades ago. (8PM, CBS)

'Law & Order: UK' -- Since the 'Law & Order' franchise is all but exhausted in America, why not take a look at the UK version, which feels like and not like 'L&O' at the same time. In this installment, a police officer's suicide is connected to a pedophile ex-priest. (9PM, BBC America)
'CSI:NY' -- Though filming in and around New York drums up business, one has to wonder how New Yorkers feel when an episode of 'CSI: NY' features the discovery of a tractor trailer truck full of dead party guests at the bottom of the Hudson River. Doesn't do much to promote travel, does it? (10PM, CBS)
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5-6'Super Bowl XLV' (Sun., 6PM, FOX)
While not the most avid of football fans, even I know that this year's Super Bowl will be a special one; and not because halftime entertainment is being provided by the Black Eyed Peas. This one is special because it features two manly men football teams -- The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both have had their share of championship dynasties and both have something to prove. For the Steelers it's a chance to win a seventh Super Bowl. For the Packers its a chance to show they can win a Super Bowl without Brett Farve. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman call the game.

'Titanic II' -- A state-of-the-art luxury liner named 'Titanic II' ends up on a course to disaster. Who would have thunk it? (Sun., 9PM, SyFy)
