My mother and I always watched mainly to see Derrick dance (Mom doesn't believe he has any bones in his body!!! LOL). I'm not sure if we will be watching next season. I love Tristan also but he hasn't had good partners. Good luck with this new move Derrick.

I have been a fan of DWTS since the first season. I Love Derrick and his sister too. I was really saddened when I found out he was not going to dance this season. He is very talented and seems like a really nice person. I always voted for him, and this year it is hard to find a favorite to vote for. I hope he returns or maybe Derrick and Julianne can have their own show!!! Anyway please know we love you and wish you the best, from an old grandma, who just dreams of dancing.....

I Loved watching Derrick dance. He is exciting to watch and I hope he comes back, but I do wish him well in his other ventures. Lola

DWTS is not the same with out Derek. I HIGHLY suggest ABC get Dereck back on quickly................

When Derek wasn't there for the opening show, I assumed it was because he had accepted another offer that would give him the opportunity to heighten and expand his extraordinary potential as an artist. (To that end, I've always thought his rare gifts of knowing how to excite the eye through the use of space and delight the mind with details of characterization could lead naturally to a hugely successful career on Broadway, as actor/dancer and choreographer.) I certainly don't mean to denigrate the greatly talented and charismatic pros who are leading a rather ho-hum group of celebs through their paces this season. But it would be clear to even the most casual viewer that the show lacks a certain one-of-a-kind "star power" without his routines to anticipate every week. He made everyone under his guidance achieve the absolute best of their abilities, whether they were klutzy or classy, with or without talent or innate musicality. That is rare in a business so often steered largely by ego, and I hope that he'll find the time in coming seasons to return with even greater artistry so that millions can see how it should be done.

Simply said ... YUP! He's a real entertainer ... I'll check out his movie. No dummies -- the producers-- to hook him. He and his sister Julianne are remarkably talented and exemplary young people. I'm glad he'll be returning to the show. Wish Julianne would come back too.

You Bet I'll Miss him. He's always been my all time fav. I was SO disappointed when I bought the Dancing with the Stars Wii game that he wasn't part of it nor was any teaching of the dance moves. I'll be lookin forward to your movie Derrick. Also to your commin back in the fall. Won't be the same without you but am SO glad your doing somethin you wanna do.

Watched the intros and immediatley noticed he was missing. Just checked to see why, and am happy it was his decision and he is doing something he wants. Hopefully he will return next season. The show will miss his talent, and creativity.

Sure I will miss Derrick, but now that I know why he will not be on the show(doing movie, learning new dances) I understand. He is just taking a break and will return in the Fall. To say you will not watch without him, is not fair to Derrick.

My husband was the one who said Derrick is missing. I had to go to the web to see why. We are excited he is doing a movie. Good for him.
