Soap News: 'Bold and the Beautiful' Cuts Kyle Lowder and More

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 31st 2011 10:25AM
kyle_lowder_rick_the_bold_and_the_beautiful_cbsAfter four years on CBS's Emmy-winning soap 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' Kyle Lowder is out as Rick. The official word is that Lowder's been taken off contract and will be recurring -- much like Ashley Jones' Bridget and Winsor Harmon's Thorne -- but according to the star, he's looking for a permanent gig elsewhere.

Lowder told Soap Opera Digest, "From my standpoint, it's an amicable situation. Obviously, it's their choice, but at the same time, the story has been slow for over a year and a half, and like any professional in any line of work would do, you prepare yourself for the next step."

The actor, who previously appeared on 'Days of Our Lives' as Brady, could land another soap role, or move on to prime time.

It's too bad 'B&B' stopped writing for him, an inexplicable development considering how front-burner his storyline had been for most of his tenure as Rick.

'Castle' Does Daytime
Nobody can ever accuse Nathan Fillion of disparaging his soap roots as Joey on 'One Life to Live.' He not only returned to the soap after enjoying prime-time success, but he has welcomed many soap stars to his current hit, 'Castle.' Now, 'Castle' is doing an episode that's an homage to daytime called 'One Life to Lose.'

TVLine reports that in the show, Fillion's Castle and cop partner Beckett investigate the homicide of a soap opera writer. "As they work the case, watch for multiple stars from ABC's own sudsers to make appearances." The stars won't be playing themselves, but fictional versions of actors on the fictional soap. The soap episode of 'Castle' is slated for March 21.

austin_peck_as_the_world_turns_cbsPeck Picked Up by 'One Life'
'As the World Turns' veteran Austin Peck has joined the cast of 'One Life to Live,' potentially reuniting him with real-life partner Terri Conn (Aubrey), who'd been his romantic co-star on ATWT, as well.

Peck's role is cloaked in mystery, which may mean that the powers that be aren't sure yet what they want to do with him ... or that there's something big going on. His first day of filming is Jan. 31, so he won't appear on camera until later in February. Hopefully, he and Terri will get to kick up their chemistry in Llanview.

jacqueline_macinnes_wood_steffy_the_bold_and_the_beautiful_cbsWood Returning to 'B&B'
Have you been missing troublemaker Steffy on 'The Bold and the Beautiful'? Jacqueline MacInnes Wood will be back on 'B&B' on Wednesday, Feb. 16, ready, willing and able to jump back into the story lines.

As we previously reported, Wood was shooting the movie 'Final Destination 5' in Vancouver. On the show, Steffy was sent to work at Forrester International in Paris.

According to 'B&B' executive producer Brad Bell, when Steffy gets back, she's loaded for bear. "She wastes no time getting into the mix of her family's business, her sibling's love lives and setting her sights on a man to call her own!"
