Whoopi Goldberg Shares Her Own History of Drug Addiction, Empathizes With Charlie Sheen (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Feb 2nd 2011 3:15PM
It seems Whoopi Goldberg can at least relate to some of what Charlie Sheen is going through as a functioning individual with an alleged substance abuse problem. On 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated), a discussion on Sheen prompted Goldberg to share the story of her lowest point as a movie-making, simultaneously drug-addicted, celebrity.

"I ended up sitting on a bed ... for three or four days, scared there was something under the bed ... I wet the bed. I pooped the bed. I did all kinds of stuff ... I was so scared and that's when I knew," said Goldberg.

Goldberg added that she continued to work while she struggled with addiction. "I did films during that time. I did everything during that time," she said.

People are quick to judge when they think addiction won't hurt them or strike someone close to them. I can understand empathy to a degree, but if you don't have anything to contribute to this thread, then why even bother?

I love Whoopie G, and yet at times when I watch The View it appears that she sound like she has been smoking
some good weed. It's WG's street demeanor that turns me on about her. Age has really taken a hit on her facial appearance, but WG is holding, even though she's not showing. The Whoopster can get it.

i usually agree with whoopi, but i don't sympathize nor empathize with charlie sheen. he has what most people would kill to have, he is so blessed and what does he do? some lame unfunny sitcom and going berserk with nasty, disease ridden porn "stars". digusting....grow up, sheen!

I also hope he can realize how blessed he is. What I see is a man who really does not appreciate how blessed he is to be who he is. Obviously he is oblivious to those suffering around the world and in this country who would love to be making even 1/2 a quarter of his salary. He's oblivious to those starving all over in this country and else where who could use the money he's wasting on drugs, alcohol and prostitutes. If he would try to sympathize with someone else and help someone with the money he's making, he would stop being a selfish little boy, grow up and begin to live a fulfilling life. He also needs to start putting his faith in God, and not himself.
Also, just because he comes from a family of actors, does not mean that's what he's meant to be doing with his life. He needs to make some hard choices, independent of his family for once, and not live in his father's shadow. If it were anyone of another color, or other economic status he would not be home getting rehab, the courts would have already tossed him into jail or a program. He should not be treated any differently.

Whoppi Goldberg identified with Charlie Sheens addiction, and related a story about thinking someone was under her bed, whoa!! How about her one woman show that made her famous on Broadway portraying a dope fiend, she was a natural, prior to becoming " Whoopie G", she left there and lived out in San Diego Ca. where she studied theatre, drama until finally becoming a comedian...if we are going to admit our past, then let's try being totally honest and go back to the beginning, those roots were the ground work for you success...No matter the past, look at her success in life as a result of admitting defeat to the disease of addiction, growing and facing all life's challenges head on, becoming a respectable citizen, friend, mother, etc...Good job :Whoopi, Baby!!! We are all proud of you and your accomplishments..Charlie Sheen, we will probably end up losing to the disease, unfortunately, he just ain't getting it, he is playing with his life and death, but won't concede to his problem...sad...really really sad..

I liked Whoopie until she came onto The View and I got to know her better and dislike her intensley. She's a closeted Republican who constantly complains about how much in taxes the wealthy have to pay and complains about the government trying to put in place healthier foods for our children. Oh boo hoo!!

She also thinks she's an authority on everything givng out contant advise to others. She speaks as though she's an authority on parenting and motherhood, even though she got pregnant at 16 and her daughter at 15. She's was a drug addict so how much of a roll model was she?

And she constantly complains about being discriminated against for her smoking and thinks second hand smoke is not a big issue. and everyone should just back off.

Sorry, I don't have much respect for smokers who bitch about others not wanting to share their nasty addiction. Apparently, she's not aware that she's still an addict.

Whoopie is an idiot.

It doesn't surprise me a bit that Whoopie was a dope addict. Having a large picture of Charlie Sheen in the background seems to send a message that he's someone great. He's a dope head, an alcoholic and a man also addicted to porn "stars." I don't sympathize with him at all. He needs to get his act together or get out of the spotlight.
