Howard Stern Apologizes to Letterman, But Bashes His Super Bowl Commercial With Leno (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 4th 2011 3:30AM
Howard Stern, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Howard Stern has made a career out of saying whatever he wants and making virtually no apologies for any of it. However, his conscience got the better of him when it came to David Letterman. So, on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), Stern made a genuine apology to Letterman for something that happened many years ago.

Early in both of their entertainment careers, Letterman used to call Stern at home. Stern would then talk about those conversations on his radio show, which upset Letterman at the time and led to the phone calls stopping.

"I really want to apologize to you for doing that," Stern said sincerely. "And if you should call me again, I would not reveal what you said."

The radio host took issue with Letterman, however, for the infamous Super Bowl ad he did a few years back with Jay Leno. "I never understood it," he said.

"Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, and people sort of responded favorably to it," Letterman explained.

"I didn't like it," Stern said. At an earlier point in the interview, he'd made his thoughts on Leno very clear.

"You know, as well as everyone in this room," he said to Letterman. "Jay [Leno] is horrible. Right?" Letterman only laughed in response. It seems this feud between the two late night hosts isn't going to die down any time soon, even if Letterman and Leno choose not to actively participate in it.

Howard, look at it this way. Jay is the friendly guy who won't say no to people wanting autographs, even when he's leaving the studio after taping the show. Letterman is the aloof guy who restricts the ability of interns on the show to talk about him and Paul.

So, who is the horrible one?

No, Howard. You are horrible. Leno is still winning the ratings war for late-night talk. You would think that Howard would understand that the whole fiasco, going back to when Johnny Carson announced his retirement, was the responsibility of managment.

Just as management has wrecked havoc with Howard's career, NBC wrecked havoc with its late-night programming.
1. It picked Leno to replace Carson, even though Carson wanted Letterman to takeover The Tonight Show.
2. It told Leno in '05 that Conan would takeover in '10, rather than let Conan walk.
3. It caved to Leno and gave him a prime time show, rather let him walk.
4. It caved to the affiliates and tried to push Leno's show to after late local news.

Wow so many haters...If you don't like Stern don't listen or partake in his appearances on talk shows. He is an intelligent man. He works at getting a rise out of people, that 's what he does. And it looks like it worked here too!
Live and let live people....

Anyone who says Stern is an idiot who does nothing but degrade woman obviously doesnt listen to his show or know what they are talking about. Pretty sad really. If you actually listened to what he is saying you would know its got nothing to do with degradation. The fact is these people choose to come on his show and he shows a genuine interest in why they would do that to begin with. That aside thats only like 5% of his show. Try listening to it before making silly comments and judgements.
