According to Samuel L. Jackson, the name of his production company -- Uppity Films, Inc. -- can be traced back to his childhood in deeply segregated Tennessee, he said on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated)."When I was a kid, I used to go to work with my Grandfather. He cleaned these office buildings and there were all these big, cigar-smoking white guys. And he always told me, 'Don't look them in the eye because they'll think you're uppity,'" Jackson said, adding that he would often look people in the eye anyway, earning himself a reputation as he got older.
