Poll: How Many 'Real Housewives' Shows Are Too Many?

by Rich Keller, posted Feb 5th 2011 9:30AM
'The Real Housewives of New York' will be one of seven installments of the franchise to air this year? Is that too many?As 2011 moves ever forward we are about to reach a momentous occasion: the restart of 'The Real Housewives' cycle on Bravo. It begins with the new gang from Miami on Feb. 22 and will eventually lead to housewives from New York, New Jersey, Orange County, Washington D.C. and Beverly Hills.

'Miami' will up the total number of shows in the franchise to seven. While some people, including the executives at Bravo, may feel that this isn't even enough, others, including myself, feel that the series is heading towards burn-out.
Sure, fans of the franchise will say that each group of housewives has its own vibe and boasts diverse characters. Yet, despite the differences, it's the same concept over and over again: same evil housewife, same over-spender, same mediator, same big function, same catfight with frequent swearing and hair pulling.

The only difference is the dresses they wear and what type of wigs are being pulled off their heads.

Now the Miami housewives are coming on board complete with a drag queen to add a twist to the cast. While this may seem groundbreaking, it may just be the same thing all over again. There's a very good chance that James Davis, the drag queen known as Elaine Lancaster, will either be the good one or the heavy who flips tables over during a dinner party. If that's the case, where will the originality be in 'Real Housewives of Miami' other than its location?

So this begs the following question: Are seven versions of 'Real Housewives' too many? Do you think the sheer amount of episodes that run at any one time is producing diminishing returns for the franchise? Should they be pared down to only the most popular groupings -- New Jersey, New York and Atlanta -- to keep the series going? Or should those three groups be retired for the newer crop of shows from the D.C., Beverly Hills and Miami?

On the other hand, do you feel that there aren't enough 'Real Housewives' shows? Maybe there should be one for each major city, including those in the South and Midwest. Or perhaps you'd like to see some 'Real Housewives' shows based in cities like London or Paris. Would you be able to watch 'The Real Housewives of Indianapolis' or 'Real Housewives of Dublin?'

Or are you someone who feels that, even with the inclusion of the Miami wives, that seven is the right amount of 'Real Housewives' on Bravo to get your fill of drunken dinner party fights that would make sailors blush?

Your opinions are welcome.

How Many 'Real Housewives' Shows Are Too Many?
There are too many versions of the series right now. They need to pare them down to the most popular ones.214 (49.9%)
There aren't enough versions of the show. They should cover all of the country and the world. And, yes, I would watch 'Real Housewives of Indianapolis.'107 (24.9%)

I refuse to watch the Atlanta,Jersey, or Orange County. I love the RHOBHs. So far..Kyle is the perfect woman..Aside from being smart and sexy..she raised a daughter who finished college..called out her sister on her problem..didn't bite her tongue and pretend to be somebody she wasn't..was loyal to a friend when other's were not (Faye)..and was ready to do a beat down on the a "hussie at her house"..(the woman hanging on her husband). I hope she gets a commercial for Pantene and helps Adrienne design her shoe line!

DC was boring - skip it. Atlanta just got annoying. I'd love to see one in a normal suburban area with REAL housewives - LOL Cause these other women have no clue what a housewife is -although it's lighthearted entertainment to watch and no one gets hurt and certainly much much better then the show that has teenage girls clamouring to be unwed pregnant teen moms to become instant celebrities - that is just pathetic and a sad state of society when teen pregnancy is encouraged. WOnder how many girls are getting pregnant on purpose now inhopes of becoming the next Teen Mom sensation. That's a scary idea far worse then Allison DuBois scarey!!

I think they need to rethink bringing back DC, that was a waste of time. I also think Atlanta has reached it's peak. Stick with NY, NJ, Orange County and BH. Adding Miami seems like over kill.
