Soap News: 'General Hospital's' Luke and Laura Reunite on 'Oprah' and More

luke_laura_general_hospital_abcLast week, we told you that Oprah Winfrey was looking for the nation's biggest soap opera fans for a special episode. Well, that soap-oriented 'Oprah Winfrey Show' will air on Wednesday, Feb. 9, and the big news is that the show will include an appearance by the most famous soap supercouple of all time, 'General Hospital's' Luke and Laura.

That's right, Anthony Geary and Genie Francis are the main attraction for an 'Oprah' hour that will also include 'All My Children''s Debbi Morgan (Angie), Michael E. Knight (Tad), Darnell Williams (Jesse) and, naturally, Susan Lucci (Erica).

Also, the grand dame of daytime, Jeanne Cooper, who plays Katherine on 'The Young and the Restless,' will be a guest.

All the actors, except Genie Francis, are currently appearing on their shows. Francis's character, Laura, is living in Paris, though her longtime love, Luke, is still cavorting in Port Charles (only now he's married to Tracy Quartermaine).

Primetime Players
Some of the most popular, younger daytime stars will be popping up in primetime. Billy Miller (Billy, Y&R), Marcy Rylan (Abby, Y&R) and David Fumero (Cristian, AMC) have all landed primetime guest roles.

Miller is going to be on the season 2 premiere of FX's 'Justified' on Feb. 9, playing a criminal by the name of James Earl Dean. Dean is involved in sexual assaults, but with a name like that, it sounds like he ought to be an assassin.

Rylan shows up on the Feb. 10 episode of the William Shatner sitcom '$*#! My Dad Says,' while Fumero is guesting on 'CSI: Miami''s Feb. 20 episode.

The folks of Oakdale are gone, but the memories linger on. At the WGA Awards last weekend, the Writers Guild of America recognized 'As the World Turns' as the winner in the daytime drama category.

'ATWT' bested the writing teams from 'One Life to Live' and 'General Hospital.'

This was the last year that ATWT is eligible for the prize, and among the writers honored were Susan Dansby -- who's now with Y&R -- and David Kreizman, who's co–head writer for AMC.

Comings and Goings on Y&R
There's a lot of casting news for CBS's No. 1 soap, Y&R. Movie star Sean Young is coming back as Meggie, reprising the role she had prior to appearing on 'Skating With the Stars.' Meggie was sent to prison for trying to kill Victor. Her return, therefore, will be from behind bars. Young is back the week of Feb. 14.

There will be a new Nate Hastings in Genoa City, too. Actor Walter Fauntleroy has been cast as an adult Nate. The character was last on the show seven years ago when he was a teenager, but now he's grown up to become a doctor. In fact, he's Ronan's doctor and he'll be involved in that character's liver transplant surgery. Fauntleroy shows up this week.

Finally, Daniel Goddard's character, Cane, was shot and killed last week. That means Goddard is officially off-contract. On the other hand, John Driscoll -- who's been in Witness Protection as Chance -- has returned. He's the organ donor for Ronan. He showed up last Friday.

More on That 'Castle' Episode
The soap-centric episode of ABC's 'Castle' that we've been hearing about will include some major stars, including Jane Seymour as a daytime diva named Gloria Chambers. From the soap world, 'AMC's' Rebecca Budig and Cameron Mathison, as well as Corbin Bernsen, who recurs on 'Y&R,' have also been added to the 'Castle' cast.

The episode has been named 'One Life to Lose,' an homage to Nathan Fillion's tenure on 'One Life to Live,' and the fictional soap is called 'Temptation Lane.' The show is set to air in March.

It’s really nice that they’re featuring the L&L wedding episode. But, I wish the recent firing of Rebecca Herbst (as had been requested), had also been addressed as well, in some way, even with a past episode. Fans are really heartbroken and pissed about this, and it has gotten a lot of buzz. Becky scored a trifecta in magazine covers this week, just over this issue.
