Arianna Huffington Addresses The Future of AOL (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Feb 8th 2011 6:15AM
It's been announced that AOL has bought The Huffington Post for $315 million. As part of the deal, The Huffington Post's co-founder and editor-in-chief, Arianna Huffington, will now be in charge of all AOL's content, including TV Squad.

Huffington and AOL CEO Tim Armstrong appeared on 'Piers Morgan Tonight' (Weeknights, 9PM ET on CNN), where they spoke about the deal, and the future of AOL.

Morgan wanted to know if AOL was going to start charging for content, noting that his ex-boss, News Corp's Rupert Murdoch, believes that charging readers to access online content is the only way forward.

Huffington disagreed, saying that, "People are used to getting their news for free. The only thing people are willing to pay for on the Internet are specific financial information that they can monetize and, don't ask me why, but they are willing to pay for weird porn."

So, you can rest easy: This means that TV Squad won't be charging for content any time soon. (And we won't be featuring any weird porn, either.)

Our contempt for AOL is intensified by the "purchase" (as in "for valuable consideration") of the bizarre Huffington Post site for such absurd moola. Truly gag-inducing news.

Wonder if all the losers from Huffington Post will spew their vile comments on AOL now.

Gee wiz, why are you all so negative... left / right (dems / repub) Let's see what happens, it's not the end of the world. Are we not all on the same planet, same USA.. Express youself but give things a chance.. Nobody knows what is in the road ahead! AOL made a business transaction wait and see how it evolves. Months may go by and progress can be good, lets not assume it will be bad! Not sure if I'm either L/R, whatever... I have mixed ideas and stances but it's not to a point where I should be nasty to someone in opposition.

AOL has always been a left wing news outlet. They're just bringing more of their own under the AOL umbrella.

There goes AOL news. We will never hear anything close to the truth, just Arianna Huffington's left slant on anything. Especially if the article on Glenn Beck posted 2/8/11 is any indication. You should really watch his show before you say what he is saying because you definitely got that one all wrong! The Huffington Post has been a joke and no one takes it seriously.
