The football season's not over yet at FX. The cable network has announced that it's renewing fanstasy football league series 'The League' for a third season.According to TVGuide.com, FX has ordered 13 episodes of the semi-improvisational comedy, which follows the members of a Chicago fantasy football league. Season 2 got off to a record-breaking start, and ratings overall were up four percent, with the show averaging 1.4 million viewers per episode.
Speaking about the renewal, exec producers Jackie ('Disturbia') and Jeff ('Curb Your Enthusiasm') Schaffer said, "We're thrilled to be doing a third season with our amazing cast and the most audacious network around."
They added that, "FX truly is like the parents we wish we had growing up -- every time we say something naughty they reward us."
In a statement, FX Exec VP Nick Grad said, "We're pleased to announce the third season pickup of 'The League,' and are fired up to continue our partnership with Jackie and Jeff Schaffer and the ensemble cast. ... We love the show, and the reaction the cast received across the country during their recent comedy tour is a sign the show is really building momentum."
'The League' stars Mark Duplass, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll and Paul Scheer as fantasy-football-obsessed guys who try to meld their passion into their crowded family and professional lives. Our own Scott Harris recently called it one of the best-ever TV shows about football.
Past seasons have featured guest appearances from NFL players and analysts like Terry Bradshaw, Antonio Gates, Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Suggs and Josh Cribbs, but there's been no word yet on who'll guest on Season 3.
Production is slated to begin in the summer, with Season 3 premiering on FX in the fall.
