Six weeks after Nate's death, Sammy returned to work, this time in uniform so he could patrol with the Gang Enforcement Detail. As he told Sal, "They need to see that they didn't win."

Josie and Lydia caught a high-profile celebrity murder case with a poolside decapitation and lots of media attention. When Josie wanted to know how the paparazzi were able to get to the scene so quickly, Lydia explained, "Celebrity death in the Twitter age."

John and Ben were assigned to crowd control at the upscale neighborhood where the murder took place, which John didn't like one bit. "This detail is crap. We should be out doing real police work," he told Ben but stood his ground, literally, refusing to sit on the job despite obvious back pain.

When Lydia's photos of the crime scene ended up on TMZ, Lydia was forced to turn over her cell phone and was taken off the case, pending an internal investigation. She, of course, was devastated. "What if I'm not a cop?" she asked Russ. "All I got is this job."

Josie and Lydia seemed to be getting along better. "You're working your inner Naomi Campbell," Josie commented at seeing photos of the arrest, but disagreed about whether the celebrity was guilty. Lydia's instinct that "Billy Stearns" was innocent was borne out by the episode's end, when a more viable suspect was caught with a bloody samurai sword.

Sammy rode with a new partner (Bokeem Woodbine) who told him, "You got that Sean Penn, crazy white boy thing goin' for ya." It was a tougher Sammy we saw tonight. He chased down a smalltime thug, roughed him up and told him, "I'm your worst nightmare. Sammy Bryant is back, you hear me." He instructed the small-timer to send a message to the guy who killed Nate.

Sammy learned he actually is the father of Tammy's baby, which added to his already conflicted feelings about taking Nate's place with his family. Sammy was still living with the Morettas and not likely to leave soon, since Nate's young son refused to eat until Sammy came home.

When Stearns made it home on bail without spending one night in jail, John jumped on the first real case that came over the radio and caught heat for leaving their post. John told him, "The mayor cares more about celebrities than people in this town" and that he and Ben were "real police with real people to protect." He was ordered back to his post, where the star had killed himself, despite a note that he was innocent. "Saved a lot of money with that gunshot," John noted.

And yes, John's really gay, people. A brief scene confirmed it: He woke up in bed next to a guy who looked a lot like César, his buddy he shared a beer with in the Season One Finale.

Sammy took offense when his new partner told him he was "playing Denzel." "You saying I got my partner killed?" They revisited the spot where Nate was killed. "I had a different attitude about gangs before I met Nate. He grew up here. He treated these a--holes like people and they killed him for it." As Sammy related what happened that night, the locals started to gather, prompting his partner to call for backup.

Sammy didn't back down when Nate's murderer got in his face and told him he had 30 seconds to get in his car. "You killed my partner. I ain't goin' anywhere." Fortunately for Sammy, backup arrived before anything could happen.

'Southland' airs Tuesdays, 10PM ET on TNT.

I think you're right about Ceasar being the man in bed with John, but I don't think Ceasar is his drug dealer. I think Ceasar is the guy who helped John build his retaining wall and watched fireworks with him in the finale. That's a huge difference so I just wanted to make sure to put that out there.

Ceasar wasn't Cooper's drug dealer. Ceasar was his 'friend' who has helping him with his garden in the first series.
The dealer is a different guy.

I love Southland and was glad to see Sammy back but hopes he catches the guy who killed Nate. My thoughts on him staying with Nate's family while his son is mourning the loss of his Dad, is that this will have some consequences if he plans on trying to get back with Tammy.
I missed the last 20 minutes last night and am wondering if anyone knows where I can see it again?
