2. The producers are suckers for sob stories.

In a battle royale of tearjerkers, the producers have pitted special needs parent Paris Tassin against unemployed father and Asperger/Tourette Syndrome sufferer, James Durbin.

When Paris broke into Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On,' you knew it was a subliminal message that these two sob stories were both going to cry happy tears in their journey to the 'Idol' stage.
