TV Stars Contending for Grammys
The Grammys hand out its awards tonight at 8PM ET on CBS, and if you scanned the humongous nomination list (109 categories, hello!), you found a lot of TV favorites there. Some of them are in niche categories that will probably not be featured on tonight's broadcast. But we expect to see at least a few of the following stars in their Staples Center seats, if not bringing it on stage
"Dancing with the Stars' is surprisingly well-represented on the Grammy list. Season 2 contestant Tia Carrere -- also known as Cha Cha on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' -- contends in Best Hawaiian Music Album for her CD 'Huana Ke Aloha.' And last season's 'DWTS' resident comic hoofer Margaret Cho (photo) is represented in the Best Comedy Album category for 'Cho Dependent'.
The Best Comedy Album category is dominated by TV stars. Kathy Griffin will be on Staples Center's A-List, wielding her nomination for 'Kathy Griffin Does the Bible Belt.' And how we wish Grammy producers would let Flight on the Conchords perform in support of their nod for 'I Told You I Was Freaky' (man, we miss them on HBO).Margaret Cho, 'The Daily Show's Lewis Black and Mork himself, Robin Williams, round out the Best Comedy Album list. Below, Cho talks about her 'DTWS" experience on 'Good Morning America'.
'American Idol' winners (and losers) have always fared well at the Grammys. Not-quite-Idols (Chris) Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson have received nominations (Hudson winning in 2009). while legends Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have taken home the big prize. As for 2011, Underwood looks to add to her five Grammys in the Category of Best Female Country Performance. As for Fantasia Barrino, even if she manages to pick up two awards tonight, she'll still have a win-loss record worthy of Susan Lucci (Barrino is currently 0 for 8).
'American Idol' second place finisher Adam Lambert (at left) is up for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, but the man who took the season 8 crown, Kris Allen, was surprisingly shut out of this 2011's Grammy awards. Enjoy some 'Idol' nostalgia as Adam introduces himself during Hollywood Week.
Reserve a row at Staples Center for the cast of 'Glee', nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals (is this unprecedented for TV regulars? Well, The Monkees were nominated for four Grammys back in the 1960s).'Glee' guest star Carol Burnett (AKA Sue's Mom, pictured) is among the nominees in the Best Spoken Word Album category for her audio book 'This Time Together.' Joining her in the same category is recent guest star on 'The Good Wife', Michael J. Fox, looking for his second Best Spoken Word Grammy win.
Check out the performance that could lead to Grammy glory for Lea and company, 'Don't Stop Believin.'
The Grammys are often considered the most entertaining of the awards shows, and we have to agree. Whose appearance are you most looking forward to?
