'Idol' News Beat: David Archuleta Latest Idol to Lose Record Deal
David Archuleta is the lastest 'Idol' album to get dropped from his label, in what seems to be a growing trend these days. Just a few weeks ago, word spread that former 'Idol' golden boy Clay Aiken was let go from his label, Decca. If true, Aiken and now Archuleta follow in the heavy footsteps of Taylor Hicks and Rubben Studdard, also dropped from their respective labels. After his 2008 debut record went platinum, Archuleta was unable to follow-up the sucess with his latest album, "The Other Side of Down." The album, which was released on October 5th has sold around 63,000 units. The good news (I guess) is that Archie is still signed to 19 Entertainment, for now.
'Idol' Ratings Hold Steady
Nigel Lythgoe told the press he's pleased with 'American Idol's' ratings this season, all things things (like losing Simon and heading into a 10th season) considered. And he should be. Last night's final Hollywood episode soared past the stiff Thursday night competition, pulling in 21.9 viewers, maintaining the same rating as the previous week's Thursday night hour.
And while the return of CBS' 'Survivor' poses a threat, it's not one Nigel and co. need to take too seriously. The premiere of the veteran reality competition drew a strong 11.15 rating but nothing close to 'Idol's' 23.20
Fantasia Barrino Pulls Diva Fit Over Diva
She finally wins a Grammy and what does Fantasia Barrino do? The season three winner boycotted the awards ceremony because she wasn't asked to perform in an Aretha Franklin tribute. Here's what she told the folks at 106 & Park about the snub (via VFTW)
"I'm going to be very honest with you. You know I wasn't at the Grammys last night. I'm kind of going through my own little thing... Last night they were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day I should have been on that stage so, I kind of did my own little thing last night."
In a way, it seems like pulling a diva move like this is a tribute to Aretha, in and of itself.
Check back next week for more of the latest 'American Idol's' to lose their record deals and throw diva fits!
