Kiefer Sutherland Eyes Return to TV Drama With 'Touch'
In news that could spell doom for the much-rumored '24' movie, it's been announced that star Kiefer Sutherland is thinking about heading back to TV drama.According to deadline.com he's in talks to take the lead role in 'Touch,' the new drama pilot from 'Heroes' creator, Tim Kring, and 20th Century Fox TV. It marks Kring's first new on-spec script since 'Heroes' was canceled back in May 2010.
In true Kring fashion, 'Touch' will contain otherworldly elements. It is reportedly centered on a father who "discovers that his autistic, mute son can predict events before they happen."
Charles McDougall, who has helmed the pilots for ABC's 'Desperate Housewives' and 'The Good Wife,' as well as Fox's brand new police drama, 'The Chicago Code,' is in talks to direct.
But will Sutherland be free to take on a new TV drama series? Last month he told reporters that he was "very excited" about the prospect of shooting the '24' movie this year, but the last we heard, producers were still said to be searching for the right script.
A more pressing engagement is Sutherland's role on Broadway where he's currently part of an all-star ensemble cast in a revival of the Jason Miller play, 'That Championship Season.' However, the production is advertised as a "strictly limited engagement," and tickets are currently being sold only up to the end of May. So, it's just possible that he'll be able to squeeze in shooting the pilot in early summer.
Just don't hold your breath waiting for that movie ...
