On Nov. 5, 2009, a deadly shooting spree devastated the lives of 43 people directly, and countless others in Texas and around the country. Thirteen people died when a lone gunmen opened fire at the country's most populous military installation. The team at 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' (Sun., 8PM ET on ABC) dedicated an episode to helping one of the survivors of that attack: Staff Sgt. Patrick Ziegler.
But it wasn't just Ty Pennington and the 'Extreme Makeover' crew that headed to Fort Hood. They brought along comedian Dane Cook to bring some laughs to the service personnel.
"My dad was a military guy," Cook said. "And just instilled in me at a very early age that giving back to your country was paramount to anything else."
He opened his set with a thanks to all who wear the uniform and serve their country, calling them an inspiration. Then he broke into familiar Dane Cook material, riffing on dumb girlfriends and inane things like the risks of packing angry. It was classic Cook, and he was a hit with the military crowd, including Staff Sgt. Ziegler.
