He's not heavy, he's my Rummy. Well, something like that.Donald Rumsfeld was on 'Late Show with David Letterman' (Weeknights, 11:35PM on CBS) talking about his time in government as Secretary of Defense for Gerald Ford. Ford is the only president Rumsfeld considered a friend as well as a boss.
Letterman brought out a picture from just before an assassination attempt on the president and asked Rumsfeld to talk about it. After both Ford and Rumsfeld were narrowly missed by a bullet, the Secretary joined the secret service in protecting the President from a potential second shot.
"We pushed the president into the floor of the limousine and and the secret service man standing there and I got on his back," Rumsfeld said, indicating the picture.
Six blocks later, Rumsfeld said Ford had apparently had enough of this protection. "Come on, Rummy, get off," he said. "You guys are heavy."
