Lisa Ling Explains Her New Show, 'Our America,' on 'Oprah' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 22nd 2011 5:55PM
Lisa Ling on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'Lisa Ling has been making the rounds on talk shows to discuss her new show, 'Our America,' which premiered last week on Oprah Winfrey's OWN. The show features stories about faith healers and those who feel people can be "cured" of being gay through prayer, among other things. Today, she went on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' (weekdays, syndicated) to give people a better understanding of what the show is about.

Winfrey asked Ling what she thought the common thread might be between the different stories. "The common thread really is that all of these people are Americans," Ling replied. "They're people who could be living right next door to you -- they're people who could be in your own home.

Ling said she thought the more people know about each other, the more involved they are as a society. "The reason why I wanted to call it 'Our America' is I really wanted to take ownership of what it means to be an American," she said. "So, yes, some of the issues and the people we cover have controversial lives, but at the end of the day, this really is our story."

THE NAME OF THE SHOW SHOULD NOT BE OUR AMERICA IT SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARD WHAT THE SHOW IS ABOUT AND NOT WHO. WE ARE ALL GODS CHILDREN BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE ALL AMERICAN.
ESPECIALLY WHEN PEOPLE COME TO THIS AMERICA AND TRY TO PUSH THEIR BELIEFS AND CULTURE ONTO OTHERS THAT ARE AMERICANS AND DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE ANYTHING ELSE BUT TO LIVE WITHIN THE AMERICAN CULTURE AND BE A CHILD OF GOD. I FEEL IF SOMEONE WANTS TO LIVE IN ANOTHER CULTURE THEY SHOULD LIVE THERE AND NOT TRY TO PUSH THEIR CULTURE ONTO OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE NO INTREST IN THE OTHER CULTURE EXCEPT TO SAY THAY WE ARE ALL GODS CHILDREN AND WE ALL LIVE IN OUR CULTURE BECAUSE THIS IS WHO WE ARE NOT LOOKING TO BE LIVING IN SOMEONE ELSES CULTURE AND HAVING IT FORCED UPON US. THANK YOU
