This is Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth, a weekly column here at TV Squad where we discuss and give our two cents on recently released spoilers and how they may affect the storylines, shows and fans. This in-depth version of the column goes hand-in-hand with our weekly spoilers column, in which we supply you with the dirt on some of the more popular shows on the air.
This week, we discuss spoilers about a character from the past returning for the series finale of 'Smallville.'
Michael Rosenbaum has finally agreed to reprise his role of Lex Luthor! He'll appear in the two-hour series finale set to air on May 13.
Sadly, spoilers about why and how Lex will be back in the flesh in Metropolis have yet to leak, but it's only a matter of days or weeks before we get some scoop since Rosenbaum was in Vancouver recently to shoot his scenes.
Some early rumors claimed that Rosenbaum wouldn't appear in the flesh during the finale, but just do voice work. Bummer, eh? But since Rosenbaum traveled to the set in Vancouver, it's pretty much a given that the "voice only" rumor is false as he could have easily gone to a studio in L.A. to do complete such a task.
However, some fans still claim he won't appear on screen as pictures of him that were taken on his return trip from Vancouver to L.A. shows him sporting his hair. Then again, Rosenbaum could have worn a bald cap.
As a fan of Rosenbaum and the series since season 1, the news that the actor finally agreed to return as Lex was one of the best TV news of the season thus far! Lex Luthor is an integral part of the 'Superman' franchise and having a final season without the return of Lex wouldn't be satisfying.
Personally, I hope that Lex's scenes in the finale are not flashbacks or fantasies. Since Clark is supposed to be fully transforming into Superman, it's only fitting that Lex will be there in the flesh to step back into the villain role as should be.
It'll be interesting to see who and what triggers his return to Metropolis. Tess? LuthorCorp going down? The news the Superman is in town? Something/someone else?
If you have a theory on how and why Lex will come back or just want to comment about how cool it is that Lex will be back, share your two cents with us in comments below!
'Smallville' airs on Fridays at 8PM ET on The CW.
