Christine O'Donnell Says She's Been Asked to Compete on 'Dancing With The Stars'

Christine O'DonnellSo, who saw this one coming? The cast for the next season of 'Dancing With The Stars' is due to be announced next week, and failed senatorial candidate Christine O'Donnell says she's been asked to compete but hasn't yet decided whether to accept.

The Tea Party favorite announced the invite on her Facebook page Monday: "I just got the Official 'Ask' from Dancing With The Stars !! Although I am utterly flattered, my initial thought was to decline, as 2 year old nephew has more rhythm than me, and my two left feet!!"

The conservative Republican, who lost her bid for a Delaware senate seat amid controversy over statements that she had dabbled in witchcraft, says she's still mulling it over.

Lack of dancing prowess hasn't deterred several other celebrities from taking part in 'Dancing With The Stars' -- remember Kenny Mayne, Steve Wozniak and Michael Bolton? -- but O'Donnell says it may have to take a backseat to her plans to complete a book about politics: "Still undecided. Book comes first."

A spokesman for 'DWTS' refused to comment on casting speculation, saying only that the cast will be announced next week.

Rumors have abounded for months that Sarah Palin wants O'Donnell on the show as a follow-up to daughter Bristol's appearance. Despite heavy criticism of her technique (or lack thereof) Bristol was a fan favorite, gaining enough public votes to keep her in the show all the way to the finale. Her surprising run of success spawned a slew of conspiracy theories, and even made us question if Tea Partiers were gaming the vote.

One ABC source told Popeater back in December that O'Donnell was a good idea as a contestant. "After Kate Gosselin and Cloris Leachman, O'Donnell would fit right in. She certainly would be so controversial that the amount of press attention and buzz the show would get would be huge. Plus, you know they would make her dance in a witch's hat with a broomstick."

So will she, or won't she? Stay tuned for more 'Dancing With The Stars' updates.
