'Boston Rob' Doesn't Like a Player's Strategy on 'Survivor: Redemption Island' and Blindsides Him (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Feb 24th 2011 3:49AM
'Survivor: Redemption Island' - 'You Own My Vote'We're only two weeks in, and already the influences of former players Russel Hantz and Rob Mariano are changing the flow of 'Survivor: Redemption Island' (Wed., 8PM ET on CBS). While Russell is sowing discontent in his tribe, Rob is showing a darker side as well this time around.

After last week's crazy ranting at Tribal Council, Phillip Sheppard seemed the obvious choice. But Rob orchestrated a secondary strategy to eliminate a player who couldn't possibly see it coming. And, it was one of their strongest players.

So, what did he do to get on the wrong side of "Boston Rob"?

He was nice.

You read that right. After their loss at the earlier challenge, one player approached the other tribe and shook their hands in congratulations. Rob saw it as a gameplay move to look like a "nice guy" later in the game, and he was having none of it.

Looks like neither of the all-stars is playing a nice game. And Matt Elrod became the second contestant headed for Redemption Island, where he'll face off against last week's Francesca Hogi to see which one gets to stay in the game and which one will be the true first person eliminated.

Boston Rob is no dummy. I'm enjoying his play. He really suckered Philip, the former federal agent (?), lol. Love that question mark CBS shows. I do wish this show was longer because just about the time we really get into the strategy, it's over. Would we tire of a 90-minute or even two-hour show? Possibly, but it would be fun if at least the first show of any season was 2 hours long, giving us a chance to know something about the players. I think the little blonde girl (yes, girl) is going to do some damage to Rob. What's with her? Did she have a real crush on Matt? I've watched this show from the beginning, and every season has interesting twists. But please stop bringing back old players. Surely among the 40,000 applicants or so, CBS could find interesting players without reverting to old ones.

I didn't see anything wrong with Matt being a good sport. Rob is SCUM and wanted him out cause he is a threat and used that as an excuse. Rob hasn't changed. Can't stand him and never could but he does make the game interesting that's for sure.

If this kid was in the Military, and in a firefight, and all his buddies were killed, would he walk over and shake the ENEMYS hand?

Going to be one of the Best Season Ever. Look forward every week to the next. Make it a longer show -- 90 minutes. Less editing and more show. We only get 40 minutes and you film for 24 hours a day - 39 Days. Come ON. The best show on TV.

Oh please, it wasn't because he was nice. Boston Rob pointed out earlier in the episode that the kid was developing a "couple" alliance with the little blond. He knows from personal experience that that's a tough alliance to break. Anyone recall Rob and Amber? Not to mention Russell's longevity on two seasons in which he manipulated a strong alliance with one of the girls.

I thought it was a great move: Get control of Mr. "I'm a Federal Agent!", force the immunity idol into play, and break up a potential threat. The one big flaw to the plan could be that the kid wins the challenge on Redemption Island and gets to go back to the tribe. Also the girl he had an alliance with might decide to go after Rob herself.

Hey CBS...Why not put Boston Rob on Two and Half Men and put Charlie Sheen on the island. Now that would be the ultimate REHAB!!!!

I'm so tired of stupid moves on Survivor. I was a huge Rob fan until now but that move was pure ego and no brains.
When will these people get it - when you're already losing, your ONLY option is to kick off your WEAKEST player and hope you can turn the tide. Instead, the losers go after some of the strongest players, virtually guaranteeing that they keep losing and the other tribe has the numbers going into the merge. When Boston Rob is making such an incredibly stupid, shoot yourself in the foot move, it's almost unbelieveable.

Oh! how I agree with you. I've been watching this show from day one and still can't understand WHY they vote out their strongest first before the merge.(DUMB). Also, watch the "FOOL" who plays the "FOOL" cause he no "FOOL".(Phillip).
Jack: I agree with you too (scumbagRob). Everyone hates Russel but he's up front about what he's about. The farmer-forgot name-was wrong about the clue, why did Russel HAVE to show it to the tribe. He didn't tell them he has the idol.
