Kim Cattrall Discovers Her Grandfather Secretly Remarried, Had Another Family (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Feb 28th 2011 6:45AM
Kim Cattrall on 'Who Do You Think You Are'Kim Cattrall has always wondered what happened to her grandfather. He abandoned Cattrall's mother, two aunts and grandmother in 1938. They never legally divorced, and he was never seen or heard from again.

With the assistance of professionals on 'Who Do You Think You Are?' (Fri., 8PM ET on NBC), Cattrall receives a copy of a marriage certificate in the mail. It's his -- and dated 1939. "Son of a b---h," says Cattrall. "I knew he was gutsy, but this is just... Now he's a criminal."

The certificate proves that not only did he remarry within a year of leaving his family, he flagrantly violated the laws against bigamy. "[He] didn't change his name or his profession -- incredibly cocksure of himself that he wouldn't be found out," notes Cattrall. "[We] found out now." And the 'Sex and the City' actress goes on to discover he had four more children with his second wife.

Good job! It takes real guts to search for family, not knowing what you'll find, specially when you are in the public eye. Heartbreaking that grandmother, mother and aunts were left in such dire circumstances. Notice the women survived? We are women, we are strong, screw the ba++++ds!

The secret she discovered certainly wasn't acting.

Ms Cattrall. First, ignore the ignorant comments of some here. I watched the episode, and was pleased that both you found the truth you sought, and that your mother and her sisters had contacted the family in Australia. If we do not know our history, how can we go forward? Again, kudos to you both as a person and as an actress.

Just make sure your Last Will & Testament are airtight, sister, because these long-lost relatives will be coming out of the woodwork if anything ever happens to you. No, I don't know them personally. But I've lived long enough to know people, especially in today's atmosphere of greed.

Kim has a s- - - fit over gramps who ran away in 1938 ( 73 ) years ago. Whoa Kimmie, get over it. Who knows, certainly not you what drove grandpa to the other woman. You are long past those vulnerable teenage years so find a way to live with it and move on.Certainly gramps at least meets the Hollywood criteria of high morals and everyday family life standards.
Then we come to some little lady having her bresters felt and the guy doing it is getting crotch mauled by another little lady. All this from our degenerate Hollywood crowd on prime time Tv. What a show, such good people to follow in life. How pathetic can we be, watching this crap from people sooooo many admire, and want to be like.

I have been actively researching my ancestry on ancestry.com so when I saw this show, I was ecstatic to watch the journies of others as they made their discoveries. I saw this episode and was very moved, despite I have never been a "Sex" fan. I was glad to see at the end in the closing credits that Kim's mothers and Aunts have opened up communication with his other children in Australia. They were cheated, as well. It wasn't their fault their father was a bigamist. Here they have 3 half siblings they never had any inkling existed. I was disappointed that her G-grandmother never reached out to the abandoned family to help them. They just tucked them away, because of shame!

It's his loss, Kim. He never had the pleasure and pride of knowing his distinguished and talented granddaughter. It takes a great sense of satire to play the libidinous Samantha and a strong sense of values not to live in the celebrity "fast lane." You're right.....he was an SOB........just let him go.
