'Dancing With the Stars' 2011: Who Is 'Psycho' Mike Catherwood?
One of the biggest question marks in this season's slightly-less-star-powered-than-usual 'Dancing With the Stars' cast is 'Psycho' Mike Catherwood. What do we know about the guy besides the fact that he looks a lot like Kelly Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos?Catherwood is a Los Angeles–based radio DJ who got his start as a sidekick on the Kevin & Bean morning show on L.A. rock radio station KROQ and currently co-hosts the nationally syndicated 'Loveline' with everyone's favorite TV personality / addiction specialist, Dr. Drew Pinsky.
His rise to national fame, however, came just a few weeks ago when he co-hosted 'Live With Regis and Kelly' when Reege was out one day. Catherwood told his home radio station in an interview that he was asked to do DWTS after that fateful gig. Actually, he started getting calls during the taping.
"I was blown away. I couldn't believe how flattering that was," he told KROQ. "It seemed like once the show got going, there was actual interest sparked, which is cool. It's crazy to see what can happen when you're exposed to an utterly, completely opposite demographic, which is what the show was."
Catherwood initially had doubts about doing the show but not for the reasons you'd think. "[It wasn't] because it's embarrassing or because I can't dance -- which I can't -- but because I'm so not a celebrity. Like, I would be 'that guy.' Every single year when they announce the cast for 'Dancing With the Stars,' we sit here at Kevin & Bean and go 'Who's that guy?' and now I'm gonna be that guy this year."
Catherwood has also guest hosted E!'s 'The Daily 10' and done voice-over and commercial work in L.A.
