'V' Season 2, Episode 8 Recap
['V' - 'Uneasy Lies the Head']As mentioned before, Erica is getting more ruthless in her war against the Visitors, particularly since they're responsible for her ex-husband and son being taken away from her. Naturally, since she'd be feeling lonely, she'd take to the nearest bad boy around, which would be Mr. Hobbes. Since their brief flirtation last week, they pretty much skipped all the courting and went right to the bumpy-bumpy (hey, that's war).
Given time, there would probably be some sort of relationship, possibly romantic, between Erica and Father Landry as well, since she obviously cares for him too. Perhaps that's a third or fourth season story line.
It's tough to say exactly what Anna's plans are for Tyler. She's taken Erica's son from her just as Erica more or less took Lisa. The injection at the end, while probably not fatal, could not possibly have been a good thing.
We all knew that Marcus would be back eventually. It's interesting how he was re-introduced learning about Diana's continued existence.
Speaking of Diana, she's starting to make her moves as any good chess player would. With Ryan as an ally as well as Marcus, she's beginning to build her base with which to seize control of the ship from Anna. Jane Badler really gave a strong performance tonight and reminded me more of the character she played in the 80s version of this show. Ruthless and cunning.
That giant alien centrifuge was pretty cool looking. Regarding Ryan's escape from the ship, wouldn't somebody notice a pod ejecting from it given all the cameras that are likely looking at the hull? On the other hand, it was mentioned that it was cloaked.
The entire virus story line ended up being a wash. Overall, it was a pretty crap plan that had a million ways of going wrong. The Fifth Column is lucky that things didn't turn out worse than they did. If this show gets another season, it would be nice to learn the history of the Fifth Column. It's obviously been around since Diana's time at least. Perhaps it was her failure to defeat them as well as her human emotions that prompted Anna to take over and declare Diana dead.
The whole "DNA collapsing" story line somewhat explains the bloody body that Joshua was working on near the beginning of the episode. You just know he's going to regain his human emotions and rejoin the Fifth Column before the season is out. It's pretty much being telegraphed (which is one of the shortcomings of the show).
Why would there be armed guards at a low-security facility like the one Erica and company infiltrated? They'd more likely call the cops if they saw anyone suspicious. At best they'd be carrying mace. That's television for you. Anything for drama.
Perhaps Anna is considering Ryan's daughter as her own because Lisa is growing more distant from her. On the other hand, it could just be a way to hurt Ryan, which is as good a motivation for Anna as any. I am continuously impressed with Morena Baccarin's portrayal of the character. It's definitely one of the highlights of the series.
I'm also glad Ryan has a bigger role this week and likely an even bigger role next week. His character has been on the sidelines for too long. It's about time he got back in the game, rather than worry about seeing his daughter (who will probably be a lot bigger and played by a different actress the next time he sees her).
Tonight's episode was a little better than last week's, and from the promos, next week's looks even better than that. I look forward to seeing Ryan reunited with the soldiers he betrayed.
'V' airs Tuesdays at 9PM ET on ABC.
