Family TV Round-Up: 'Dora the Explorer' Primetime Special and More

Dora is off on another adventure March 14. This time it's to find her ballet shoes.Welcome to the Family TV Roundup, a recap of all kid-friendly programming across the television universe. We'll sum up all the news related to children's programming, as well as profile the people and shows that your kids, tweens and teens are talking about.

Dora the Explorer
and her menagerie of helpers continue their preschool domination with a new primetime special airing on Monday, March 14. In 'Dora's Ballet Adventure,' the pint-sized explorer is frantic after the ballet shoes she needs for her recital go missing. In their place is a pair of scuba flippers presented by the delivery duck. The rest of the 30-minute episode deals with Dora and Boot's quest to find the missing ballet shoes.

As with Nick's other programs, 'Dora's Ballet Adventure' will be a multi-platform event. Fans will be able to get a sneak peek of the special starting on Monday, March 7, at via Nickjr.com. Clips will also be available from the network's wireless partners with a new 'Ballet Adventure' app debuting on the day of the premiere. Two days later, Nickjr.com will launch a new 'Ballet Adventure' game.

'Dora's Ballet Adventure' debuts at 7PM on Nickelodeon and will be rebroadcast at 9AM on Tuesday, March 15. It will also air on Nick Jr. on Sunday, March 20, at 7PM. If your kids can't wait to see the special, a DVD featuring this episode as well as three other dance-related installments is currently available for sale at Target.

Program Schedule Notes and Reminders:

-- This Sunday, 'Nick News With Linda Ellerbee' looks at truth in middle school. 'Lies we Tell in Middle School,' which premieres on March 6 at 9PM, will feature kids who lied and why they did so. The special will also feature celebrities like Donald Faison, Jeff Foxworthy and Victoria Justice detailing what they lied about as kids.

-- New episodes of 'The Fresh Beat Band' premiere next week on Nickelodeon. The new installments will air Monday-Friday at noon.

-- The Imagination Movers go primetime (sort of) in a new concert special airing this Sunday. 'Imagination Movers in Concert' features the quartet performing at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans with former show guests Duff Goldman and Joey Fatone. The 45-minute special will air at 6PM on Disney Channel.

-- A tween and teen programming note: the college-based comedy-drama 'Greek' ends its run on Monday, March 14. The series finale airs at 9PM on ABC Family.


Ratings News:

-- The first annual 'Hall of Game Awards' was a ratings win for Cartoon Network. The cable outlet's sports-themed award show provided increases in all age ranges from the same time last year. The biggest jump was in Tweens 9-14 with a over a half a million viewers; a jump of 76 percent from 2010.

-- The President's Day marathon of 'G.I. Joe Renegades' and 'Family Game Night' provided huge numbers for The HUB. Over all, ratings were up 97 percent from the same period a week before, with the biggest jump being during the six-episode run of 'Family Game Night.'

-- Disney XD' 'Zeke and Luther' hit series highs for its third season premiere. The program reached nearly 1 million Total Viewers, making it the network's top telecast in its short history.

In other news...

-- Disney will be releasing the first 13 episodes of 'The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' on DVD this April. In addition to the episodes, the two-DVD set will provide sneak peeks into the show's second season.

-- 'Super Why!' is coming to PBS Kids Sprout. A fixture of the normal PBS Kids Go! lineup, 'Super Why!' will premiere on Monday, March 21, at 3PM as part of the 'Sprout Sharing Show.'

-- Disney Channel will premiere Selina Gomez's video for her new single on March 11. The video for 'Who Says' will be the first off of her new album with The Scene, which will be released on June 28.
