'How I Met Your Mother' Renewed for Two More Seasons
Fans of 'How I Met Your Mother' rejoice: It's been announced that CBS has renewed the comedy for not one, but two, more seasons. On the downside, that could mean another two years of not knowing who the mother of Ted's children is.The deal's similar to the three-year one that CBS recently signed for 'The Big Bang Theory,' and according to Deadline, 20th Century Fox TV has done very well on the new deal, commanding almost double the usual licensing fee from CBS.
It's the first time that 'HIMYM' has been renewed so early in the season, and it could be that the cast and crew have Charlie Sheen to thank for their newfound job security.
Although 'Two and a Half Men' has another year to run on its three-year deal signed in 2009, Sheen's alleged substance abuse problems and erratic behavior have put the future of the ratings juggernaut in limbo for now. CBS execs are therefore looking at alternative ways to keep ratings high and boost revenues.
'How I Met Your Mother' debuted in 2005 and quickly became a cult favorite. However, it struggled in the ratings until Season 4 in 2008, when it took off and has never looked back. It regularly attracts high-profile guest stars like Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, Rachael Bilson and Katy Perry
Fans of the show will be glad to know that all the core cast members -- Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan -- are also onboard for the next two seasons.
'How I Met Your Mother' airs Mondays at 8PM ET on CBS.
