'How I Met Your Mother' Renewed for Two More Seasons

by Catherine Lawson, posted Mar 7th 2011 8:40AM
Katy Perry on 'HIMYM'Fans of 'How I Met Your Mother' rejoice: It's been announced that CBS has renewed the comedy for not one, but two, more seasons. On the downside, that could mean another two years of not knowing who the mother of Ted's children is.

The deal's similar to the three-year one that CBS recently signed for 'The Big Bang Theory,' and according to Deadline, 20th Century Fox TV has done very well on the new deal, commanding almost double the usual licensing fee from CBS.

It's the first time that 'HIMYM' has been renewed so early in the season, and it could be that the cast and crew have Charlie Sheen to thank for their newfound job security.

Although 'Two and a Half Men' has another year to run on its three-year deal signed in 2009, Sheen's alleged substance abuse problems and erratic behavior have put the future of the ratings juggernaut in limbo for now. CBS execs are therefore looking at alternative ways to keep ratings high and boost revenues.

'How I Met Your Mother' debuted in 2005 and quickly became a cult favorite. However, it struggled in the ratings until Season 4 in 2008, when it took off and has never looked back. It regularly attracts high-profile guest stars like Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, Rachael Bilson and Katy Perry

Fans of the show will be glad to know that all the core cast members -- Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan -- are also onboard for the next two seasons.

'How I Met Your Mother' airs Mondays at 8PM ET on CBS.

I'm really surprised that the Two and a Half Men's producers, writers, directors and creator, do not have thicker skin than they do in reality! When you're dealing with drama kings and queens, producers know how to deal with them.. But it seems like Charlie has really got under the skin of someone on the staff on CBS' highest rated show.. To fire the big star, is kind of like cutting off the nose to spite the face!! Grow up little boys and girls who are the so-called professionals of this wounded sitcom.. I've been reading a lot of the posts, and now matter who they bring in to replace "Charlie," they will end up bombing, and then nobody will end up watching what is supposed to be a great sitcome with great actors, but now someone has turned....

I don't understand..We have half of American screaming about violence and sex on TV and in the movies but they love 2 1/2 men and Charlie Sheen? The show is all about sex! Hypocrites? Maybe..

I'm pretty sure I read an interview once with Carter and Bays saying that they were going to end the show after 8 seasons, so it looks like CBS is just renewing their contract through the finale. Love this show! Don't want it to end but 8 seasons is great run.

Charlie Sheen needs to take a good look in the mirror, and get off whatever it is he is on!!! He is off the wall, and his rants are really tiresome.

I think Rules of Engagement is much funnier than How I Met Your Mother. For that matter so is The Big Bang Theory.
