LOVE THE SHOW. HISTORY BECOMES REAL AND EMOTIONAL TO THE EVERY DAY PERSON. WE HAVE MUCH TO LEARN FROM THIS. EVERYONE S ANCESTRY WAS ENSLAVED AT ONE TIME OR THE OTHER AND SLAVERY WAS LEGAL. THE BLACKS NEED TO PUT DOWN THEIR BAGGAGE, PULL UP THEIR PANTS AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHAT EVERY AMERICAN HAS AVAILABLE TO THEM. THE BIBLE STORY OF JACOB BEING SOLD INTO SLAVERY BY HIS BROTHERS BUT BECAME A HERO LEADER AND SAVED A NATION IS TRUE. LIFE NEVER HAS BEEN OR WILL BE FAIR. MAKE THE BEST OF IT AND YOUR SITUATION AND FREE YOURSELF.

I've also noticed that many blacks (Ritchey, Chris Rock, and others) who are famous, when they find difinitive proof that they have white ancestry, can barely keep their racist feelings in line. They are disgusted and oftentimes angry, and I don't get it. You can look at Lionel Ritchey and tell he is part white.
God created all mankind. We all come from Adam and Eve (down through Noah and his 3 sons and their 3 wives), therefore we are all related if we go back far enough in time. Jesus came as a Savior for all mankind, not just the Jerws, or whites, but for all, if we but believe in him. So why do people think their 'race' is superior to anyone else's when we all belong to the same race~the human race? Racism exists because of sin, no matter what the color of your skin is, it is evil and wrong. I also get tired of people thinking that only whites are racist when racism is practiced in all colors, peoples, and countries of the world. Evil thinking produces evil outcomes, and all racist thinking is evil.

As a former History major, and an avid genealogist I have learned one fact while tracing my Irish, German and Scot lines.
Those in power at times are cruel to those who are powerless. Good examples of this are Ireland during the potato famine, Scotland after the Rising, and Germany during Hitlers reign and during the religious wars after the Reformation. I would not presume to know exactly what Mr Ritchie is feeling, let alone what he SHOULD feel. The range of responses to this type of discovery is huge, particularly when the descendant is new to the field.

Why on earth would Lionel Ritchie be "shocked" that there is an owner/slave combo in his ancestry? How many of us can say we are pure black from the original African slaves? Plus, you can look at thim and see someone was messin in the big house or in the slaves quarters.

I love to watch this show, but I don't understand why blacks get all upset and act surprised to find slavery in their background when they know that slavery is part of our history. Slavery is an evil, but blacks are not the only people who have ever been held in slavery. The Israelites were Egyptian slaves for more than 400 years (much longer than blacks here in America). The ancient Greeks, Romans, Persians, and others also had slaves, as well as more modern peoples such as the Vikings, many in Europe (feudalism was slavery of the serfs), Asian countries, Native Americans also held slaves of rival tribes and whites, and those in South America also held slaves (Mayans, Aztecs, Incas, etc). Slavery is not just an American invention, nor is it a recent practice only held by Americans. Slavery still exists in parts of the world today, though it is not supposed to be.
Like I said, slavery is evil, but good things came from this enslavement. The descendants of the original slaves are now living in a free country and have the same freedoms and abilities (sometimes more so because of Affirmative Action) as other peoples, and they've been given the opportunity to have been born here. Black people should be grateful that their ancestors were brought here so they could have the opportunities they now have of being Americans. They could still be in Africa where they would most likely be living in abject poverty (without all the government welfare programs we have here), fearing tribal and government sponsored wars and oppression, including genocide through famine, and could have been exposed to AIDS, Ebola, Malaria, and other diseases that are so prevalent in Africa today.
I in no way say this out of racism. My own ancestry heralds Native American (our lands were stolen, our people murdered and removed to "Indian Lands"), and also European ancestry of the serf era where my ancestors lived under the oppression of feudal lords.
Most people can trace their ancestry back to some form of slavery and oppression if they go back far enough (whether racial, ethnic, or religious), but the difference is that American slavery is more recent, though many European whites were sent here and "Down Under" as indentured servants.
Those who have recent slaves in their family trees can feel bad that their ancestors were bound in slavery, but also rejoice in the ancestors who fought for the freedoms they have and enjoy today. It is directly because of slavery that most blacks in America are here, and so they need to embrace the past and enjoy the present.
There is not one person on the face of this earth who, if they go back far enough, will not find slavery in their ancestry. Slavery is an ancient practice that most countries had at one time or another, and we live in the present when for the first time in history it is not a world-wide practice. I thank God that it is not as I would also still be in slavery had my people not been freed.

Lionel Ritchey and Dr. Morgan Brown look a great deal like each other!!! Most families forget their history after 3 or 4 generations, so I don't think there is any big deal secrets involved here, only recovery of lost information. Nothing was hid, which is what secrets are.

Spain went into Mexico and destroyed a whole race , am I angry? yes!!
