Donald Glover Was Hired at 21-Years Old to Write for '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

Donald Glover, 'Lopez Tonight'Donald Glover has had a pretty quick rise to fame, but it may have started even sooner than you realized. On 'Lopez Tonight' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on TBS), the 'Community' star talked about the email he received that changed his life. It was a job offer from '30 Rock' to be a writer.

"How did you send the material to them in the first place," George Lopez asked him.

"I emailed it." But don't send off that script just yet: The producers had asked him to submit some material. At 21-years old, Glover thought it was some kind of joke, but before he knew it, he was on staff, and would stay there for three years.

"And you left on your own?" Lopez asked.

"Yeah. My mom was very upset," Glover admitted. "She was like, so you [leave] this show where you bleed Emmys, so you can go do stand-up where you tell jokes about how bad of a mom I am."

Things turned out all right for Glover though, as the combination of his smart writing and performance abilities secured him a job on 'Community,' a show some would argue is even smarter than '30 Rock.'

I love Community, but who would argue it's smarter than 30 Rock? I've never heard, thought, or read that before.
