Dr. Drew Suggests Charlie Sheen Should Be Committed (VIDEO)

Dr. Drew Suggests Charlie Sheen Should Be CommittedDr. Drew Pinsky suggests that Charlie Sheen should be committed on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC), pointing out that the troubled actor's behavior seems to warrant involuntary confinement.

After conferring with psychiatrists and watching Sheen's Ustream broadcast from Monday, Pinsky recommends a 5150 psychiatric hold, which allows police to take individuals into custody for a 72-hour period if proven a danger to themselves and others.

"I've spoken to psychiatrists who have told me that if this were their patient, they'd put him on what's called a 5150, an involuntary hold," said Pinsky.

"He would benefit from hospitalization if somebody could get through to him," Pinsky continued. "But part of the challenge of hypomanic patients is they don't believe they have a problem. They believe you're the problem. So, it's very difficult to get them to cooperate."

In a response to NBC's Jeff Rossen, Sheen questioned experts who "don't know him" and said they shouldn't criticize a "jobless trailblazer" such as himself.

Dr. Drew Pinsky needs to stop skirting around the saying he is not making a diagnosis based on video. He should lose his Board Certification and License! If it were anyone else they would.

Leave Sheen alone and yes Dr. Drew is the problem, leave him alone and let him be happy and live his own life. That is what is wrong with this so called free country, everyone worries about other people's business.

It doesn't take a doctor to know that Charlie Sheen is having a mental breakdown. Just watch his broadcasts on TV and the internet. They committed Brittney Spears with a 5150 for doing way less than Charlie is doing now.

I support the comment from jinxnolan. I've never heard of this Dr.Pinsky and feel he and all the others should keep their opinions to themselves. How much money is he being paid to make these flyby diagnoses? They seem highly unethical to me. Sheen may be putting all this on; but if he's not, what we are all watching is the impact of imbalanced brain chemicals on a human being's behaviour. This particular H.B. happens to act in a television show. I guess that makes him fair game for everyone. I just think it's terribly sad and that the media should turn off their cameras, quit interviewing him, leave him alone and let him attend to his own business.

Regarding Charlie Sheen: It is my understanding that doctors do not diagnose anyone without interviewing/talking to the individual first.
