Who Is Hope Dworaczyk? The Sexy 'Celebrity Apprentice' Sounds Off

by Maggie Furlong, posted Mar 10th 2011 10:00AM
Hope DworaczykShe's Playmate of the Year 2010 and she's a runway model, but who is Hope Dworaczyk really? Well, she can now be seen on our TVs each week as the one not getting in huge catfights on Donald Trump's 'Celebrity Apprentice.'

Competing alongside the likes of Gary Busey, Marlee Matlin, LaToya Jackson, rapper Lil John, 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' star NeNe Leakes and Star Jones, Dworaczyk is raising money for Best Buddies, an organization designed to provide mentoring and employment for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

But we all know that Trump's cutthroat competition (Sundays, 9PM ET on NBC) doesn't always mean rainbows, butterflies and the joy of helping people -- and this season looks more aggression-filled than ever.

I caught up with Dworaczyk (pronounced "dor-AH-sik") to get the real scoop on this drama-packed season, including those nasty fights between NeNe and Star, the benefits of playing nice, a very meaty challenge and the celebrity she calls "so crazy!"

And if you were already overwhelmed by how bad the bickering was in the season premiere, you haven't seen anything yet. ("Oh, there's so much more!") Judging by her candid answers and teases of challenges to come, it sounds like Dworaczyk wasn't quite prepared either.

"I thought I was showing up to do a show where you're really using business skills and I was gonna prove myself to everybody, and instead it's just catfights," she says.

But don't discount Dworaczyk because she's quiet. In fact she admits that she found herself in the middle of the NeNe vs. Star drama, but jokes that she lasted "much longer" than her fellow competitors who came looking for a fight.

Very interesting ... keep reading for more.

All of your castmates were talking about how they've got daggers hidden, and they're ready to rumble. They came prepared to fight!
Yeah, I wasn't like that, to tell you the truth. But I lasted longer than most of the people that were, I can tell you that. [Laughs] Much longer. You'll see.

Ooh ... well for now, it's really the NeNe Leakes / Star Jones fighting that has everyone intrigued. Is it as big of a deal as everyone's making it out to be?
Absolutely. It's actually really scary because I'm put into the middle of it. I'm really quiet, but at one time when they're going at each other, I'm in the middle, and NeNe yells at me because I won't react. She gives it to Star Jones a lot more because Starr does react. I just stand next to her and look straight and don't answer anything she says.

So NeNe's kind of the instigator?
NeNe and Star are just both ... it was not good energy past a certain point. They really tried being BFFs -- maybe for a couple of episodes they were good and solid. Who knows what they said once they got into the quiet interview room, but it didn't last very long.

And do you have to live with these people?
Oh no, you don't live with them, so that's good. We all had separate suites. They tried putting us on different floors, but I lived next door to Gary Busey and Niki Taylor.

Random! When you heard the cast for this season, who were you most excited to meet?
I was so excited about Niki Taylor because when I wanted to be a model before I was ever in New York, I just loved her and always thought she'd be so sweet, and she ended up being really kind. We've stayed in contact. I was also really excited that Gary Busey was part of it because he's so crazy! I knew that I wouldn't be bored. [Laughs] I also knew not to underestimate Lil John. I knew he was going to be really smart ... I was excited about working with him. Marlee [Matlin] was sweet too ... I had met her before in L.A. at Yom Kippur dinners and stuff like that.
The Celebrity Apprentice cast
You might be Playmate of the Year, but you're still sort of the under-the-radar one. Do you think that helps you in the game?
When I went in, I just knew that I had to go in friendly. Being young and in my 20s, the next youngest is Niki who's 35 or 36. And then there's Dionne Warwick who's like 70 years old, and Star Jones is maybe 50 ... so going in with women who were that much older than me, I knew they'd be like, "This is the young one. Let's get her out of here because she's a bimbo." They just stereotype you. So I just went in, not really with a strategy, just wanting to get along with everybody because I didn't really want to have a fight on national television.

And you think other people came in looking for that?
Well I didn't look at this show as being a way to promote myself and make myself a reality star. At all. I actually thought it was going to be good because it'd end up showing that you're creative, you have skills ... we go through so many different tasks. We had to produce ... I can't say what it was, but a big project. That's why I was out of the catfights. Some of the people that were on there were on as reality stars -- like Richard Hatch or NeNe Leakes -- so their thing is to cause drama because that's how people watch more and know their names. So I think it worked a little bit to fly under the radar, because I wasn't a threat right away to anybody. And then I was.

Watch the season premiere here:

Did you have a favorite challenge?
I have to be careful not to say why it's my favorite, but ... I don't know if I can say this, but I don't eat red meat, and one challenge is difficult because it was for Omaha Steaks. [Laughs] But that was one of my favorites. And I loved the art task, too, because we were painting and it was just a good time, and we raised so much money.

What was the hardest part of doing the show?
It was really challenging because of the hours. I really thought we were going to show up and a lot of it would kind of be done, and the producers would make the phone calls and you would just be hanging out on camera. But it's not like that. It was so, so challenging. And the ladies had it much tougher because we had to get up for hair and makeup, too. The guys would roll out of bed at six and get ready in five minutes, and the ladies would be up at five.

Do you feel like Donald is the ringmaster of this little circus?
He is the Ringmaster because he has the final say on who's there, and I know some people he requested specifically. And he loves the drama. He loves it because he knows it's great television. I guess you always have to get the sweet one, the troublemaker, the backstabber -- kind of cast it -- but he thinks a lot about it.

Any chance you'd do another reality show?
I've learned to never say never, but I have so much more that I want to do. You don't want to film my life! Like I feel like my life is not that interesting. [Laughs] I also don't want to open up that much. I don't know ... I would never want a camera in my home. If it's something like 'Dancing With the Stars,' that may be different, I don't know. But as far as having a camera inside my house -- it's just uncomfortable. I can't imagine having personal conversations ... or waking up and brushing my teeth. You don't want to see me brush my teeth. I want secrets.

What do you think people will be most surprised by this season?
I think you're going to see sides of people that you've never seen. Meat Loaf, for example, like crying and then yelling. Lil John is really funny. John Rich is gonna be tough. You'll get to know people too, as the tasks go on. It's not all screaming and fighting -- there's actual bonding that happens. And then the fights happen. [Laughs]

She is right. You get attached to some people while having nasty fights with others. It is an emotional rollercaster, I'd say.

At least the main thing is that she earned money for her charity and built friendships with Niki Taylor and so.

What's up with Gary Busey. I can't stand to watch his retoric. He acts like he is nuts.
Will start watching when Gary Busey and Star Jones are kicked off the show.
