We have ceremony for our leaders in the United States, but it's a much more serious matter when dealing with royalty. So it's quite different to hear about all the understood social etiquette in the UK should one get the opportunity to meet the Queen. On 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), Simon Pegg revealed how those social expectations led to a very awkward encounter."I thought she had broken," he said of Queen Elizabeth II. She came to the Royal Premiere of 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,' in which Pegg voiced a mouse. But when she came up to him, she simply stood in front of him for a while and stared at him.
"You don't speak first when you meet the Queen," he'd explained earlier. So now he was stuck so long as she wasn't talking. Eventually, he started sweating in anxiety before she finally broke the silence.
But her husband, Prince Philip, who's the funnier of the two according to Pegg, had the best line. "What do you do in this film?" he asked Pegg. And upon hearing Pegg had voiced a mouse, he replied, "And when did you realize you had the voice of a mouse?"
