Blake Lewis: 'J.Lo Is the Best Thing to Happen to 'American Idol' Since Season 7'

'American Idol' season 10 Top 12!!!!!

I was really happy to see that at the top of the show the judges gave a shout out to Japan and asked for our help. One of my friends just moved to Tokyo to teach English a day before the earthquake. He's fine and trying to settle in and help as much as he can. HELP if you can by donating to one of the various charities that are out there...with that said...

J.Lo!!!!! -- Cheetah print ... Grrrrrr!!! Blakey likey. I thought she was dope already and she is sexy, but last night she was on point!

I think she is the best thing to happen to this show since season 7, when we had the original judges, still. She is very well spoken and her critiques have been so great, especially last night.

Steven has had some great one-liners and Randy has been shining too. This show has stepped up on all accounts this year. The back-stories and contestant video packages have been very well produced. Great television. Nice job 'AI.'

I was really impressed with the song selections from most of the Top 12 and I can usually never say this.

The biggest surprise of the night was Stefano. Holy moley. To be honest, I wasn't feeling this guy at the start of the season, but now in the last two weeks, he has become one of my favorites! He smashed it last night with his rendition of "If You Don't Know Me By Now." Note for note, he slayed the song with intensity and charm. He reminds me of one of my favorite 'American Idol' contestants and friend, Elliot Yamin. What he needs to do next is really work the cameras with his eyes. He keeps lifting his head up and all we get are his nostrils. Hehe...I'm really happy the judges saved him.

Pia was up next. She's my pick for the #1 spot and went toe to toe with Stefano. She knocked it out of the park, hitting Mariah Carey type notes. I really love her tone. There is a rumor going around that a record label planted her on the show. I hear these things, but at the same time, I really don't care. No one knew who she was before and now we do.

I wasn't really stoked on the arrangement of the song until it kicked into the middle of her performance. She is so good that it seems like the music stops as she sings and you are just in the world of Pia. Sexy, genuine and one hell of a voice! I really want to see her perform the next song with some movement. She is great at standing there, letting her voice do all the work. Now I want to see her use the audience and the stage.

Casey Abrams played the electric bass tonight to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. I really thought I wasn't going to like this song, being from Seattle and having had experienced Nirvana and the rise of this anthem, but I actually did. Casey is one of my favorites with his "out of the box" character, but with these other contestants, he really needs to show a different side next week. He has a real sweet/jazzy side to his voice that I'm missing. I said this last week too. Sorry for being so redundant.

I was right about Ashthon Jones heading home last week and my guess for this week would be Haley Reinhart. She sounded great last night and her performance was way better than last week, but compared to the other girls, she just isn't cutting it.

Last night, I was really proud to be a part of the 'American Idol' family. I had some of my fellow cast mates from my season over and we all watched together, critiqued the show and had a great time. I'm blessed.

To all of you reading, keep trying to make your dreams a reality and send your positivity to everyone in Japan.

Until next week, much love,

Blake

You're probably right on, Blake. Pia is a great singer, but her performances are boring me to death. I don't even remember what she sang, but I was mesmerized by her (kinda ugly) retro outfit and her shiny hair. She needs to put more life into it on stage. As much as I liked Naima last week, I thought she was the weakest this week.

I look forward to your Idol blogs! Keep it up!

Yeah, Stefano has reminded me of Elliot Yamin since the beginning. Though I have to admit, I personally think Yamin's better.

Pia for the win! Glad she did a more upbeat song. Another ballad would've hurt her chances.

Don't fret Melissa she will be signed as soon as she is legally allowed to. I don't what restrictions the AI contract has but she will DEF be signed. The girl can sing. She is one of the very few singers I have seen in my life that can literally just stand there and sing and entertain and captivate us with her voice and inner and outer beauty. She is a vision.

Pia is a friend, there is definitely no label plant going on here...she's been singing at weddings and parties since we were kids- if she was signed to a shop, it would be a surprise to her too..haha
