Mo' Money, Mo' Problems: 'Mad Men' Production May Be Delayed Until 2012
'Mad Men' fans are reeling today after Brian Stelter of the New York Times reported that infighting between AMC and Lionsgate may delay production of the show's fifth season until 2012.The cause of the delays, simply put, is money. In January, 'Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner described the disagreement in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"They are fighting over a very lucrative property... It's one of the biggest perils of success - everyone wants a piece of it now, and they are fighting over who is gonna get the biggest chunk."
Weiner has not spoken out about the recent developments.
The show usually begins shooting in late April or early May but as of now the writing staff has reportedly not been working on the new episodes.
AMC execs shouldn't be too surprised; Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior VP of original programming, said in January there was nothing set for the show. "'Mad Men' is definitely coming back for season 5, but don't ask me when, because we're not sure yet."
The network isn't at a total loss though, as they'll be rolling out their new crime series 'The Killing' on April 3. The fourth season of the network's other Emmy-winning series 'Breaking Bad' is set to premiere in July, while 'The Walking Dead' is set to arrive on schedule in the fall.
