TNT Renews 'Southland' for Season 4

The gritty, realistic series, which takes an intimate look at life for the officers and detectives of the LAPD, has been given 10 more episodes for Season 4. After a bumpy start on NBC and subsequent move to TNT, the series averaged 2.9 million viewers this season, up 6% compared to the Season 2.
In a statement, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT Michael Wright said: "'Southland' has been acknowledged by many critics as one of the sharpest, most entertaining and most authentic dramas on television today. John Wells, Chris Chulack and their teams created a brilliant roller coaster ride this season, with countless riveting scenes and unforgettable character arcs. We are extremely proud to have 'Southland' on TNT and to bring it back for a fourth season."
Fans know that Season 3 marked huge changes for the series' main cast. Regina King's Detective Lydia Adams had to adjust to life with a new partner, a new potential love interest and some drama with her former partner, Russ (Tom Everett Scott).
Officer John Cooper, played by Michael Cudlitz, continued to struggle with his addiction to painkillers, which started to seriously interfere with the job. It also turned the tables with his rookie "boot" partner Officer Ben Sherman, played by Ben McKenzie, who has now moved on to bigger things on the force.
And then there was the season's most shocking storyline, with Detective Sammy Bryant, played by Shawn Hatosy, losing his partner Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro) in the line of duty.
No production schedule or premiere dates have been announced yet, but expect to see more 'Southland' in early 2012.
