Letterman Tries to Convince Katie Couric She Shouldn't Leave CBS (VIDEO)
With Katie Couric's contract up soon, there is speculation that she might be looking to leave her gig as anchor of 'CBS Evening News.' David Letterman decided to get to the bottom of it when he had her on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), but Couric played it coy."I'm figuring out what I want to do and I'm just sort of in the process of, you know, figuring out the future," she said. She made it clear, though, that she has no contractual ties to CBS after this summer and could move on if she chose to.
So Letterman tried another tactic, by letting her know that the evening news anchor position isn't something you walk away from. He listed many of the greats that have come before her like Brokaw, Cronkite and Jennings.
He even dropped Brian Williams's name in there for good measure, though he did miss CBS's own Dan Rather. Shame on you, Dave!
"Look at all these people," he said of the prior evening news anchors. "They get in it, they saddle up and they ride into the sunset." But Couric apparently isn't sure she wants to end her career as a news anchor.
Do you think Katie Couric will leave the 'CBS Evening News'?
