Casey Abrams Sings for the Save on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

Casey Abrams, 'American Idol'Every season there is at least one elimination that shocks everyone. That's the primary reason that 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) added the "Judge's Save." It allows the panel to save one contestant from America's bad choices. And this week, they were put to the test.

It came down to Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams for the final slot in the Bottom 3. Haley, who's been there the past two weeks, and Casey, who's been a favorite since the beginning. Shock spread across the studio when Haley was sent to safety.

It went from shock to horror when it was announced that Casey was the one who received the least votes and would be sent packing, unless the judges used their "Save." With only one per season, it's rarely seriously considered this early. Certainly Casey didn't expect it.

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.

After only a few moments of singing, though, Randy stopped Casey. "We don't need to hear you sing anymore."

"Yeah, this is crazy wrong," Steven Tyler concurred. "We've made a decision here to keep you on."

Nobody was more stunned than Abrams, who looked like he might pass out. Stunned, he ran up to the judges for confirmation that he'd heard them right.

"It's Top 11," he said quietly. "Why would you do this?"

But they did, and Abrams remains in the competition. Do you think they did the right thing?

they should bring Pia back - they should have had 2 saves - Pia is one of the best singers. People are not

The judges saved Casey because American got it wrong by not voting for Casey. If anyone should have gone home it was Stefano because he was alot worst than Casey last week. He wouldn't even be in the top 12 if it wasn't for the judges giving him a wild card spot . Watch Stefano Wednesday night , he will close his eyes and scream the song out, not sing. It's time to send it home.

Kinda surprised that they saved Casey. He may have talent, but I could not hear through his sounds (as James Family) put it. Guess I'm missing something, though that the judges saw/heard that I didn't.

Personally I don't care for Casey! He's too much of a drama queen. That reaction of being saved was over the top and I also think that the judges wasted a "SAVE VOTE" on him. Don't get me wrong, he's good but there are better people in the competion that will lose out on a "SAVE" because there are no more. It also was to corny how they stopped his singing to save him. Though the talent has gotten better over the years, American Idol is going down the tubes.

Casey is a huge talent and should be in the top 5. The only girl with big talent this year is
Pia but Casey and Jacob do not have the votes of the young people in the audience, so they
have no chance at victory even though they are great. It's better to be cute than good, so Scott
may go farther than his talent deserves, and someone much more talented will be voted off.

Casey is the only real musician in the contest. Just his skills as a double bass player should put him in the top 10. When he is allowed to make a record singing his style of music ( which is what they all do when they finish in whatever order) he will sell a lot of music. If being creative is not a plus he would have not been saved. Thank God the shallow and ignorant voters who want flash and looks over talent were vetoed. This national tour will give him the exposure he needs to jump start a great artist. He is unique and that makes him special in this cookie cutter industry.

It's American Idol, not judges choice. The judges give us the top 24 and the rest is up to the performers and the audience. Imagine using a save so soon- what a gamble. Truly, I couldn't see Casey making it to the top 5, and a single save is a critical strategic tool. It was tossed out by this panel prematurely. What will they do the next time they feel bad for someone that is voted off? It was a mistake- BIG MISTAKE!

I don't think they should have saved Casey. America did not want him, which means America will not buy his music. Now two people will be voted off next week because of Casey. What the judges just did was tell everyone, including all of the contestants that they want Casey to win the competition and none of them was worth a save in the future.

I always change the station or hit mute when Casey sings. What he does is not sing....he makes sounds.
