Gilbert Gottfried Dresses as Madeline, Burns Aflac on 'Tonight Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 25th 2011 3:07AM
Gilbert Gottfried as Madeline, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno''The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) reached into our childhoods and across the ocean to score an interview with popular children's character Madeline. Oddly, she looked and sounded a lot like Gilbert Gottfried in a Madeline costume.

Leno asked him her about proper dating etiquette, after which Gottfried Madeline detailed a list of things the man should do on a date, including getting the door, bringing flowers and picking up the check.

"If the man does all those things, the polite thing for the woman to do is to bang him," he she concluded.

Later Jay Leno asked him her, "What's the most important lesson you've learned over the years?"

The set-up allowed Gottfried to talk about the importance of supplemental insurance. His recommendation? NBC decided to censor it, but it was All-State, an obvious jab at Aflac. Gottfried was fired as the voice of their spokesduck due to jokes he made about the disaster in Japan.

I don't know why Aflac felt like they had to fire Gottfried just because most of their business was in Japan. It's not like they are going to loose all their business patrons over what he said. The earthquake and tsunami took care of that.

How could someone who formerly represented an insurance company NOT think things through before saying something so thoughtless?

by putting ones self into the spectrum of entertainment, you are more responsible for your actions. I dont have 50 million people watching me, but i do have some. And I act responsible around them. You have made your bed and now must lie in it. If I am judged for saying something so idiotic, then I deserve what I get.

The title of the article makes it sound like he's a cross dresser. He's doing a skit, he's not getting a sex change operation. In early Greek theater men played the roles of women because women were not allowed to perform in theater.

Oh will you look at all of the politically correct folks here? Acting as if they have never in their lives said anything out of turn or hurt anybody's feelings. You folks are so very judgmental and unforgiving, putting on airs of standards you probably don't abide yourselves. Yeah he said something distasteful but I'm certain that he has apologised by now. All i'm saying is mind the ruler which you measure others because one day you will be judged in he same harsh manner.

I always liked Gottfried for saying some completely unexpected things. Some may be out of hand but I always thought he was a good comedian. Compared to what I've heard as far as comments from celebrities about the disaster in Japan --his did not seem all that bad compared to what 50 cent or whatever rapper said back when it happened.
