Jon Stewart to Bret Baier: Much Like 'Three's Company,' Fox News' High Ratings Don't Equal Quality (VIDEO)

Bret Baier, the host of Fox New's six o'clock show 'Special Report,' stopped by 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11 PM ET on Comedy Central.) At the beginning of the interview Jon Stewart suggested to Baier that he was a "human shield" because he is the guy Fox News uses to argue that they have good journalists, not just partisan personalities.Baier rejected that characterization, and this prompted a long disagreement between them about the nature of Fox News. Toward the end of their debate they had this exchange, which summed up each of their positions:
"Listen, on the opinion shows there's no doubt on Fox they come from the right," Baier explained. "But if you watch my show, Shepard Smith's show ... "
"No, it's more like aren't [you and Smith] the guys the online university tosses out to keep their accreditation? Like 'those guys went to college'," Stewart said.
"I would not say that Fox's main thrust is objective news gathering," Stewart continued. "And that is somewhat of a cover of a more a political operation that exists underneath it."
The interview ended rather abruptly, but Stewart assured that the rest would be available on the 'Daily Show' website. It's doubtful, however, if this debate will be settled there either.
