Will Ferrell Hints He Could Be the New 'Office' Manager

by PopEater Staff, posted Mar 29th 2011 7:35AM
Will FerrellThe rumor mill's been working overtime as the hunt is on for Steve Carell's replacement in 'The Office.' Last week we heard reports that Ricky Gervais would be taking over, and now Will Ferrell's thrown his hat into the ring.

According to UsMagazine.com, the funnyman hinted he might stay at the Scranton branch longer than his scheduled four-episode arc, which begins with the April 14 episode. He admitted it's "looking good" for him to join the series after Carell's exit.

Ferrell, who will reportedly step in as temporary branch manager after Carell's Michael Scott leaves the show, claims he has what it takes to fill his friend's shoes. However, he revealed he does have some changes in mind should he join the series regularly.

"I'd throw it out the window," he joked about the whole outline of the show. "I don't know what they were thinking when they originally cast [Carell]. No, I shouldn't say that!"

Clearly, the show Carell and the producers crafted based on the British series by Ricky Gervais has been doing something right. The show has garnered several Emmy and Golden Globe wins and nominations since its premiere in 2005.

Castmember Craig Robinson, who plays Darryl on the NBC show, dished about Ferrell's guest spot to Us.

"I don't want to give away anything, but he's amazing," he said. "You already know he's crazy...[but] he's played it straight and it comes out beautifully. It's so much fun playing around with him."

Check out a sneak peek of Ferrell's 'Office' stint below and let us know -- do you think Ferrell would be a good fit as an 'Office' regular?

Ricky Gervais as David Brent would be absolutely perfect for it. He is like Micheal Scott's evil twin!

Only way the U.S. Office could be saved is if Ricky Gervais took over. It honestly hasn't been funny in a while, and Ricky is the only comedian/actor listed so far that seems to excite the most amount of people. Will Ferrell is funny in small doses (e.g. SNL, Funny or Die), but he grates on many people quickly.

I can see Farrell in a temp role, but I think he'd be too distracting to take over the part full time. Then again, I don't see the series going beyond another year without Michael Scott.
