Will Mike Catherwood Go From 'Dancing With the Stars' to 'The Bachelor'?

by Michael Maloney, posted Mar 30th 2011 11:30AM
Lacey Schwimmer and Mike CatherwoodIt wasn't too shocking that 'Psycho' Mike Catherwood, a Los Angeles–based disc jockey, was the first celebrity sent packing last night on season 12 of 'Dancing With the Stars.' After all, he earned the lowest combined score after two dances.

His pro partner, Lacey Schwimmer, who went all the way to the finals last season, now finds herself as the first dancer to exit the show. On the plus side, the dancer/singer got to meet Britney Spears last night since she was a guest on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live.' (Ejected stars and dancers are invited to appear on the late-night talk show the night that they're voted off the program.)

Before the couple headed to Hollywood to appear on Kimmel's show, they chatted with TV Squad on the post-show press line to talk about their 'DWTS' experience and plans for the future -- specifically, would Catherwood be the new 'Bachelor' on ABC?

Catherwood and Schwimmer's exit is sad for a few reasons. The disc jockey had shown marked improvement from week one, and the couple shared a playful banter that was enjoyable to watch. In fact, it rivaled the chemistry between scene-stealers Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

"I appreciate you acknowledging [Lacey's and my chemistry]," Catherwood told TV Squad. "The truth is I knew I couldn't really bring the best dancing skills when I came here so I tried my best to bring something else to the broadcast."

The radio personality is open to doing other shows for ABC -- but not 'The Bachelor.' "I am not a catch," Catherwood deadpanned. "Lacey will back me up on that. I'd lock myself up in my room in the bachelor pad. I'm going to go back and do what I do -- my radio show and 'Loveline.' If something comes of having been on this show, so be it."

Schwimmer has recorded a single, due out in a few weeks. "[But] I can't tell you the name of it yet," she teased.

Catherwood and Schwimmer's castmates said they would miss the couple.

Tom Bergeron, Brooke Burke, Lacey Schwimmer, Mike Catherwood"Chris [Jericho] and I felt the closest to Mike and Lacey," said Cheryl Burke. "Mike's really funny."

"He's really funny," concurred Jericho. "Mike had one of the greatest exit performances all of time. He's a cool guy. I was proud of him. All you can do is improve from last week's performance, and he did that. He can leave here holding his head up high."

"Mike's a really cool dude to have around," said Chelsie Hightower.

"Mike's king of the one-liners. We definitely won't have as many laughs now that he's gone," Chelsea Kane said.

While sad to see Catherwood and Schwimmer leave, other couples were relieved they were sticking around. "I'm really relieved," said Wendy Williams. "If our fate was that we were going to go home I was going to take it like a big girl. It's great that I'm here for another week. We have three days to learn the Foxtrot."

"I wasn't too nervous," Kendra Wilkinson said about possibly leaving. "I had faith in my fans that they would vote us through. I became good friends with Lacey. I'm sad that she and Mike were booted."

Sugar Ray Leonard and partner Anna Trebunskaya , while not necessarily in the bottom two, had to wait till the end of the show to be called safe. "It was torture," Leonard said. "I don't want to be in that position again -- we're going straight to rehearsal."

With Catherwood and Schwimmer gone, the burden of being the competition's top bantering duo falls upon Alley and Chmerkovskiy. "We're going to try to live up to the expectation of being the funniest people [left in the competition]," Alley said.

"We're very serious about this competition," Chmerkovskiy added. "We're going to do our best."

How was that unexpected kiss that Alley planted on her partner after Monday's dance?

"I don't remember," he deadpanned. "I'm still trying to figure out if there was tongue or not."

Mark Ballas and his partner are looking toward next week's show, especially since his outside-the-box thinking didn't go over well with the judges this week. "Next week is 'personal story week,' which gives us a free ticket to be creative, weird, wacky and wonderful, but we'll give the judges what they want," said Ballas. "We'll still make it fun, too."

Since the judges felt that the jive was especially difficult for Petra Nemcova because of her height, she and partner Dmitry Chaplin are trying something new. "All dances are hard," noted Chaplin. "[But] next week we have a slow waltz, really beautiful."

"He'll be able to control me more," says Nemcova.

Might we see a 'Karate Kid'-themed dance some week from Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff?

"Well, absolutely," said Smirnoff. "It's something very dear to Ralph."

But it might be a while. "We'd have to earn it," Macchio cautioned. "[Producers] have asked for it, but we don't want it to be something quick. We have a lot of dancing to do before then."

Hes a good looking guy and has lot osf personality..but I couldn't stand looking at his pigeon toes all night long. His walk is very un sexy. Having said that Wendy is the worst dancer on the sow and should ahve gone home last night. My husband doesn't know who she is and he asked me if it was a man dressed like a woman (drag)

Carrie Ann and Len both said he was bowl legged and pigeon toed. They tried to tell him in a nice way to "remember to point your toes out" Suttle way of mentioning his problem. Handsome from the waist up!

I can't help but feel his delusional "pro partner" may be the reason they were voted off. Her body is too disproportionately thick--a kind way of putting it--to wear those sexy outfits.

I thought Mike was great. I saw him interviewed on KTLA morning show and he was a class act. I'm sure being the bachelor would be good P.R.. for him but they are all such skanks I'd hate to have that happen to him. Really he's better than that.
