Is 'Real Housewives of Toronto' Next?

by Chris Harnick, posted Mar 30th 2011 2:15PM
TorontoRemember that time Andy Cohen said 'Real Housewives of Miami' would be the last new addition to the 'Real Housewives' franchise? Well, that might not be the case.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, casting is underway for 'Real Housewives of Toronto.' Canada-based Lark Productions is at work on the series, but it has not been given the official green light.

Lark has a deal with NBC Universal, parent company to Bravo, the home of 'The Real Housewives' franchise. The production company is led by former CTV development head Louise Clark.

Just because this is reportedly in development doesn't mean it will ever make it to Bravo.

Bravo's 'Real Housewives of Miami' has been panned by critics and failed to grab decent ratings, only pulling in around 1 million viewers.

The fate of 'Real Housewives of DC' is up in the air, with reports of cancellation, making it the only canceled 'Housewives' series. However, 'DC' did better in the ratings than 'Miami,' pulling an average of 1.5 million viewers.

Bravo honcho Andy Cohen recently went on record saying 'Real Housewives of Miami' would be the last new addition to the franchise. "I really feel like we're done," Cohen said.

Tell us: Would you watch 'Real Housewives of Toronto'?

Hi I'm a real housewife from Toronto and I'd do it!! Toronto's a great city. The weather would be a real hoot - bit of humid summer, freezing winter, fall beauty and well more winter, frozen lakes and slush would be pretty funny to see how they navigate all that - a fashion challenge for any hot housewife! and you could show the life style of house in the city and serene cottage on a northern lake up north ay!! Just an hour from Toronto, our cottage is heaven on Lake Simcoe. Great city and beautiful cottage on a lake in one hour - Toronto's got everything. It would be great to finally have a show that shows the sophistication of this great city instead of trotting out the usual Canadian symbols of indians and mounties!

I once watched Housewives in every city. I stopped watching all together when Miami came on. I think it looks badly for women that constantly backstab, over spend, and who are very vain. I dont have any friends like that, and if I did they wouldnt be friends for long. Enough already indeed .................

Since several are divorced, and a few are just living together, are they really house wives, How about real dead weight from past relationships. If they want to boost ratings, pick a tropical island where they go topless, and women do most of the labor. Even if you had to read subtitles, ratings would sky rocket.

I'd be interested to see if women in other countries can compete with the shallow and bitchy US housewives. It would be nice to think that women somewhere can still carry themselves with class.

"Housewives" has gone from an interesting show with decent women in OC to cheap, disgusting hard to watch displays of crass, crude, low class, really unintelligent behavior. They were the best - but now have succumbed to the lower echelon. Miss the old show. Atlanta has some delightful `real' women - wish NeNe would tone it down a little - New York losing their class - DC never had it - Miami unwatchable - New Jersey a joke of Never ever had any class to begin with - tried to watch some of these - somehow they wrecked the original idea. They try too hard with the bitchy stuff - can't watch. Bethenny? done. Europe ? Would love to see British and French Housewives - maybe we could get back to the original `ladies with class'.

i would venture to guess if these two so called decent women were within 100 feet of a church they would both burst into flames
