Out Surfing, Helen Hunt's Boyfriend Didn't Tell Her There Was a Shark Nearby (VIDEO)

Helen Hunt, 'The Tonight Show'Helen Hunt's shark encounter was so minor she'd forgotten all about it, until asked by Jay Leno on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC). Her shark encounter turned out to be a blacktip reef shark, which she described as "very friendly. They don't hurt anybody and nothing would have happened."

However, her boyfriend probably had other things to worry about. She sets the scene with the two of them sitting on their surfboards between sets with their feet in the water.

"I look at him and he's looking out," she said. "And then I see he very quietly puts his feet up on the board."

He didn't tell her what he was doing or why until she asked. "Well I thought maybe I saw a little fin," he said then.

"Were you gonna tell your friend?" she asked him at the time. "Was a memo gonna go out."

They may have been safe from the friendly shark nearby, but we don't think her boyfriend was safe even after they got out of the water.

Dont believe for one second that a blacktip shark would not bite your foot dangling off a surf board. If it's hungry, it will bite.

My favorite moment was on Law and Order Criminal Intent when Vincent D'onofrio suddenly realizes that the character played by Roy Sscheider is his father. It was building and then all of a sudden it hit him.

Their are sharks in the ocean? Who would have thought it? 100,000 times more people die from mosquito bites every year than shark bites but we do not report every mosquito siting.
