Piers Gibbon is the host of the upcoming National Geographic special, 'Eating with Cannibals,' in which he goes to Papua New Guinea to meet a tribe that still practices cannibalism. He gave 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) a ... er ... taste of what's going to be in the special when he explained to Stephen Colbert how the tribesmen decide who is dinner.
"If you are troublemaker, basically." Gibbons said. "If you are a magic man. ... It is something they will do to somebody who has caused harm, who has brought sickness upon the village."
Gibbons went on to say that on special occasions a witch doctor will conduct a ceremony called a "sing sing" and at some point the witch doctor's spirit guide will whisper a name into his ear. "If it's your name, well, that's when you start running, because that means that you are the magic man and it's time to kill you and eat you," Gibbons explained.
'Eating with Cannibals' doesn't sound like it will be a show for the squeamish.
