Desperate Housewives['Desperate Housewives' - 'Everything's Different, Nothing's Changed']

Beth was rejected by Paul and abandoned by Felicia. She made the ultimate sacrifice for Susan.

It's been a month now
since we watched the OMG! scene where Beth took her own life in the ER right after giving kidney donation papers to one of the nurses.

It is now finally time to see the ripple effect of this plot twist. Will Paul mourn? Will Felicia say "good riddance"? Will Susan really get one of Beth's kidneys? Even though Beth didn't have friends on the Lane, will her neighbors be affected by her sudden departure? The answers to these questions and more coming up!

Beth's suicide had a ripple effect beyond what we could have predicted. Paul went from a "Is she dead?" predictable attitude to crying like a baby at the end of the episode. Susan went from "Yay! A kidney!" to "I don't want it as I don't deserve it." Renee went from her usual "It's all about me, let's throw the party anyway!" to her explaining why she is acting this way towards suicide. But the most unpredictable reaction was that of Felicia who seemed extremely affected by her daughter's passing. Then again, the episode ended the way we thought Felicia would react: Not truly caring and finding a way to use this twist to her advantage!

If Paul's change of heart at the end of the episode was a taste of what's to come, maybe he'll turn a new leaf and do good for once! Learning that Beth truly loved him was surely the breaking point for Paul, who hasn't been loved by anyone since Mary Alice's suicide in the pilot episode. Agreeing to let Susan get one of Beth's kidneys could be his first step towards goodness. But, then again, do we want Paul to be 100 percent good? You must admit that having Evil Paul live on the Lane is entertaining!

One of the most touching moments of the episode was when self-centered Renee explained to Gaby why she threw her party anyway: Renee's mother committed suicide. It was clear from everything that Renee said in this episode that she was deeply affected by her mother's death. Therefore, Renee wants to honor life, not death, and live life to its fullest. Kudos to her. However, she could try to be a tiny compassionate at the same time, no?

I must admit that I bought Felicia's speech to Paul when she told him that they didn't get to use Beth anymore and that she was praying for forgiveness. Felicia's a great actress and should win an Oscar for her portrayal of the mourning mother!

But it was all an act! Felicia needed to have people think she was distraught so she could get a humanitarian release from prison! With the evil smile she had at the end of the episode, my money's on her visiting Wisteria Lane to take care of Paul herself. What's your theory? Share it in comments below!

One storyline that was unexpected, was that of Andrew. Since Shawn Pyfrom announced last year that he sort of wanted out of 'Desperate Housewives' in order to focus on other projects, I never expected him to be front and center for a storyline this season.

Bree, learning from Beth's suicide, decided to help her son no matter what. It's great that she was able to find a way to lower Andrew's barriers so that he would admit he is now an alcoholic and get help. It might be best if Andrew were to move in with Bree for a while as, being alone in his house might make the recovery a tad more difficult.

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!! Skip this next paragraph if you haven't seen the preview for next week's episode!

It looks like the writers will follow Andrew through his path to sobriety. The previews showed that Andrew wants to make amends to all the people he wronged in the past, including telling Carlos that he, Andrew, is the one who ran over Carlos's mother. This could lead to a rather ugly series finale as Carlos is a man who can react rather strongly and he deeply loved and cherished his mother. The preview also hinted that Carlos may injure or kill Andrew in an upcoming episode. If Shawn Pyfrom still wants out of 'DH,' death would be the official way to grant him his wish. However, it would mean that Carlos would go back to jail and that storyline has been done already. Injury would be more likely and Andrew could decide to start his life anew elsewhere in the U.S. Then again, maybe Andrew will die, but not at the hands of Carlos? It does look like we will be in for quite a ride during the May Sweeps episodes!

Other tidbits:

- With all the drama in this episode, the Scavos' storyline felt out of place. It'll be nice though to see them catch a break as life has been challenging for them these past years.

Memorable Quotes:

"I can't tell if we are going to drive or fly." - Tom, while starting the magnificent red Lotus

"Life is for the living, so let's live!" - Renee

"You are trying to tell me that my wife is dead and that you are the consolation prize?" - Paul, to Susan

"Call me when you get your Hurricane Katrina pool party." - Karen, to Gaby who is trying to get people to attend Renee's party

"Thank you for making me the compassionate one" - Gaby, to Renee

"Yes it's Elvis. Yet another reason to be mad at my mother!" - Andrew, claiming his name is Elvis while at an AA meeting

"Elvis has left the building." - Andrew, to Bree when telling her he would not return to an AA meeting

'Desperate Housewives' airs Sundays, 9PM ET on ABC.

I'm confused about one thing: we learned in the pervious episode that Bree is also a match for kidney donation to Susan. In fact, Bree was so set on being the donor that Beth actually killed herself just so she would get to donate the kidney before Bree got around to it.

That being said, when Paul announced that he was not going to let Susan have Beth's kidney, why didn't Bree just step-up and donate hers like she was going to in the first place? Why were Mike and Susan so adamant about wanting Beth's kidney, so much so that Mike was ready to take Paul to court over it? Why didn't they just take the kidney from Bree?

It sort of seems like a lack of continuity by the writers on that one.
