Highlights and Winners From the '46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards' (VIDEO)
With Carrie Underwood not nominated this year for Entertainer of the Year at the '46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS), her back-to-back winning streak was coming to an end. So the big question of the night was who would take home the prize. Especially as all five nominees had never taken home the honor before. But that wasn't the only surprise, as there were several great performances, including a medley duet by former 'American Idol' winner Underwood and fresh-faced 'Idol' judge Steven Tyler.
He first joined her on-stage for her hit 'Undo It,' but soon they broke into Aerosmith's signature song 'Walk This Way,' where Underwood reminded us of that great rock edge her voice has.
Ryan Seacrest said, "This has been a great night for American music." It didn't get much more American than the unique artist mash-ups that performed throughout the night. Rihanna and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles took to the stage, as well as James Taylor and Zac Brown Band, and three members of Alabama joined Brad Paisley on his song 'Alabama.'
Paisley took home his fifth straight Male Vocalist award while Miranda Lambert doubled up Female Vocalist, as well as taking home Song of the Year on her way to four total wins. But Lambert did not take home the fan-voted Entertainer of the Year, despite being the night's most-awarded singer.
Despite all the accolades and love she's gotten since 2006, for the first time in her career, it was Taylor Swift who got the award. Her mouth dropped when she heard her name called, and that stunned expression carried with her to the stage.
"The fact that this is from the fans makes it so beautiful," she said. "Thank you so much to the fans. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Ever."
