Jesse Ventura: We're Still in Afghanistan Because We Want Their Lithium (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Apr 5th 2011 8:20AM
Jesse Ventura on 'Piers Morgan Tonight'During his appearance on 'Piers Morgan Tonight' (Weeknights, 9PM ET on CNN), proud conspiracy theorist Jesse Ventura offered up an explanation as to why the U.S. and its allies are still fighting in Afghanistan, which Piers Morgan found highly unlikely.

"Do you want to know why we're in Afghanistan?" Ventura asked Morgan, before telling him.

"It came to me six months ago when a story came out that they found a vein of lithium there that they say is worth a trillion dollars," Ventura explained. "Now, what is lithium used for? Every cell phone, every computer, and soon to be electric cars."

"We're going there to get lithium, so that we can live like we live," Ventura continued. "Don't sit and try to sell me [that] we're to give democracy to the world."

Morgan immediately rejected Ventura's theory, saying that Ventura believes "everything has an ulterior motive." He then told the former governor that he sounded like he was "on lithium."

There's actually a lot of lithium deposits in Canada (which would be much cheaper than getting it from Afghanistan). Ironically, there isn't enough demand to build mines on all those deposits. Cellphones and laptops require a pretty small amount of lithium.

Ventura intros his truTV show by lying about being a Navy SEAL.
He wasn’t a SEAL and the photo of him on truTV is from the movie Predator.

- Ventura took government money to go to school in Hennepin County and later told students that if they were smart enough to go to college they should be able to figure out how to pay for it.

Go Jesse!! If it's lithium, of what I was not aware, or if it's oil, or if it's just so we can continue to fund the war machine and make those companies rich that benefit from the war machine, its damn sure not because we need to maintain our freedoms or because Afghanistan is harboring terrorists. It's not a conspiracy theory. The words "Conspiracy Theory" are a copout to divert people from seeking the truth!

good for jesse Ventura....the only honest man left in America.....I'd vote for him for President. He's not a light weight like Obama..Venture does understand the middle class...he doesn't live in an ivory tower like obama...I think he'd do common sense things for the country and he's not as crazy as the republicans who only care about the very rich. He's a good solid independent and that's what we need in this country right now. When Venura was in office...he had a problem with the media and got voted out because of it.. But, he had really competent people around him and had he had more time in office I believe he would have done much better. Unfortunately, in order to survive in this day an age you have to get along with the media. All that both parties care about today is getting re-elected and taking care of their own sorry asses.

Actually, Ventura never ran for a second term. He announced at least one year before the relection, he wasn't running again. Every body expected him to do that in the Twin Cities Metro, which I'm in.
