'Happy Endings' Set Visit: Meet the Cast of TV's Funniest New Comedy (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Apr 6th 2011 12:00PM
How to describe ABC's new sitcom 'Happy Endings' ... it's smart, one of the funniest new comedies I've seen in a while and, well, the cast can say it better than I can: "It's like the show 'Friends' -- you ever see that show? -- but not as white."

Their words, not mine.

Basically, Dave (Zachary Knighton) and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) are the perfect couple with the perfect friends. Until she leaves him at the altar on their wedding day. Now those perfect friends -- including gay Max (Adam Pally), single girl Penny (Casey Wilson), and Alex's sister Jane (Eliza Coupe) and her hubby Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.) -- have to help them get things back to normal in order to keep their group alive.

The show (premieres Wednesday, April 13, at 9:30 PM ET, then moves to its regular time Wednesdays at 10PM) tackles dating stuff, marriage stuff and friend stuff in equal balance while throwing in gay love interests for the straight girl, homeless people living in attics, and couples looking to swing. It's relatable, realistic and funnier than anything in your real life, just like a good comedy should be.

I hit the show's set (which is in L.A., although the show is set in Chicago -- the magic of Hollywood, people!) to catch up with the cast and hear more about their characters. They also shared some of their own dating horror stories which feature a random guy on a sketchy subway train, an anti-Semitic joke about horns and a bad pot brownie experience. Awesome.

[Editor's note: If for some horrible reason this show doesn't work out (please don't let it not work out!), I'd watch a show about the stars of this show. They're that funny.]

You guys up for a new sitcom? I'm really curious -- give it up in the comments.

Happy Endings should have been titled be happy its Ending in a 1/2 hour. I guess its America's punishment for enjoying Moden Family. Happy Endings is as God awful bad sitcom, as Modern Family is remarkable for being great sitcom. Please ABC kill this unfunny ratings killer show.
